If you don’t want to go the vintage route (sizing issues, etc.) I second the comment about the School Photo Dress. People often call that the Jackie O. dress. A few easy modifications will get you exactly what you want.

How perfect! I’m here picking up a Pinwheel dress pattern and thought I’d visit! Nicole, I LOVE the Jiffy pattern in pink! I have a vague memory of having that outfit in the 60s! The Jackie outfit will be marvelous, of course. Can hardly wait to see the piccies of final results! xo, Nancy

Hi everyone, I’ve been sewing (and sewing Oliver and S patterns) for five years but this is my first time posting on the discussion threads.
Most recently I finished a corduroy version of the Hide and Seek dress (all in a single colour because the pattern B fabric turned out to be disappointing). I’ve posted a photo on Instagram (lucysews) as I’m…[Read more] -

Try vintage patterns on eBay. I adore sewing vintage butterick and simplicity. I go with chest size for sizing and remember they may be very short.

Hi ladies, I need some major help/inspiration. My daughter (age 8) needs to dress as Jacqueline Kennedy for her 3rd grade “Great Americans” day at school. I cannot find a simple shift dress pattern for girls (size 8-12) anywhere! You know the kind…sleeveless, simple, classic…something to wear with a pillbox hat and white gloves. Any…[Read more]

Yep…boy or girl I force my kids outside in that sort of situation.
Even if you don’t have much space…do you have room for a slack-line? We just ordered one…after the kids played on a friend’s last weekend. I’m hopeful it helps wear them out or at the very least keep them busy and out of the trees.
Good luck finding some peace!
And,…[Read more]

Meleliza, if you want them separated also I will have the train loving son for a while – it may turn my house upside down but will keep my own boy entertained with some juvenile male company.
Nicole could have one and I the other and then we could swap – and have two farm stays far away in Australia!
Running away sounds like a great plan though!…[Read more]

Sewing is a stress reliever for me. I sew mostly for my daughter. She is 9 and only wears dresses by choice. Finding ready made that she likes and is comfortable in decent fabrics has been getting harder and harder. Does she need as many dresses and skirts as she has, probably not. I do it for me, I like to try new patterns and new…[Read more]

Okay, our first skirt is finished and the link up is open! So let’s see what you’ve made with an Oliver + S patterns in 2015. And if it’s a skirt…more power to you! We made a silly mistake on our skirt, and you professionals will probably spot it right off. Go here:…[Read more]

To be more clear: I just need ideas for getting rid of the boys. Maybe I could sell them to the gypsies?
