A couple of you ladies have touched on the very good point that even when you receive in abundance, there is still a creative itch that one wants to scratch. I guess I’d never ask myself, how many poems are too many? How many paintings are too many? And yet even though I put as much if not more time and effort into my child’s clothes, I still feel…[Read more]

I would love a Liesl + co raglan tee. I have tried two other patterns out there in PDF land and I just know L+C would fit so much better. Sigh.

I, too, would love a Parachute Polo pattern for women.
I’d also like a women’s metro t-shirt with a V neck. Could this be a tutorial?

I bombed out! Ran out of time was away from the machines (and my stash for a few days and now have to make clothes for the boy so he looks decent for his sister’s christening.
I hope to get going after the 27th and then it will be a probably skirt per day thing to catch up.

I would love to see a backpack or a Secret Agent trench in this, so cute!

— your children nonchalantly tell their friends the costume of their fantasies is not a big deal, “my mom can make it.”
— Red carpet shows or Fashion Week is an onslaught of “Ohhh I want to make that, but that’s the wrong color/length/sleeve/print.” -

Now I’ve finished the second Oliver + S skirt pattern. How did you do this week? I’m so thrilled with the Sailboat pattern, it went together so cleverly! If only my double needle topstitching was as perfect. You can see the whole outfit here. Please leave a comment; and be nice about the topstitching!

I wonder if there is a way to make the dress but have a detachable portion to reduce it to a tunic? Wouldn’t that be fun to work out?
Up to my second muslin for the sketchbook shirt in size 12 with heaps of mods.

I absolutely second @justsewit – I would absolutely make both items for me (and my husband) to wear; maybe not together, but I would definitely wear a polo for work (in fact, I do quite often), and my husband does as well – and my husband and I both live in sweats in the house.

Creative roadblock. Roller Skate in dress or Tunic!!!!:????? I can’t decide. LOL I might have to make the dress, then trim the hems later.

I say if you want to make them and you have the time, go for it and don’t feel guilty! They will become lovely handmedowns to someone else someday 🙂

Ha! I love this thread. My husband bought the girls’ xmas pj bottoms this year because I ran out of time to make them and the mismatched side seams drove me bananas!
You know you’ve been sewing too long when . . . someone in your family mentions needing to go somewhere and your first thought is “are there any good fabric stores nearby?” and “if…[Read more]

When you leave a clothing store empty handed because you could make it better/higher quality.
(Stripes and patterns not lining up in RTW drive me insane!)

I was thinking about this thread today. We are blessed/cursed with abundant handmedowns from friends, and as I am very much a waste-not-want-not kind of a gal, I always use everything that fits, is made of natural fibers, and is not super-ugly or inappropriate for my children. This summer that means that they have plenty of clothing. I am…[Read more]

You spend the better part of a church service scrutinizing the priest’s vestments/a particularly beautiful Easter dress/insert-other-garment-here, looking for seam lines and trying to figure out how they were put together.

@April Henry, I am planning on making this soon in the size 8 as part of a sewing swop. I have 27 drawstring bags to make for the school and it is next, after that project.
