Rae, I have this exact problem, down to the fact that the service technician has been unable to replicate it. I just figured out that what’s happening is the lower looper is just barely hitting the needle, and, when there’s more tension on the needle thread (like when sewing heavier fabric) the needle is pulled back slightly by the tension and…[Read more]

@thejennigirl I’m really sorry to hear your news, I hope the trip goes as well as it can.
@justsewit Really pleased that the settling in is going well, that must be a great weight of your mind.
I have taken the epic step of leaving my job without another one to go to. This is the ‘first day of the rest of my life’ as my good friend says. Bit…[Read more]

Ottobre patterns are confusing sometimes because there are so many on one sheet (you need good light to see the differences!) And they don’t include seam allowance. Instructions are included but no illustrated steps except for details like a zip fly. But they do come out well, with a kind of Euro, H&M kind of feeling, depending on fabric choice. HTH!

@lightningmcstitch Okay, funny that after I made this post, I came across your blog (in my internet searches) and then subscribed to your blog, for the same post you mentioned. 🙂
@motherof5 Thanks for the link; I loved seeing the red pants with that black zip! It reminded me that you had once mentioned before that the after-school pants were the…[Read more]

Heidi I think the design is interesting and just by looking at the pattern, I am expecting them to sew up easily and fast. I will have to ask Imogen her thoughts on fit and ease of wear etc because they are for her. I will never fit into the size range possibly ever – possibly.
So one is cut out and the next is ready to be cut and both will be…[Read more]

I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Tania culottes, I’ve been eyeing the pattern ever since they came out but I was so far out of the size range at the time that I didn’t even bother. Finally my waist is in the sizing, so it’s on my “thinking about” list.
I’ve just finished a lullaby jacket from fleece with matching footie pants from…[Read more] -

I have finally managed the time to cut out the first (of a few) Tania culottes, a Megan Nielsen pattern. I’m doing the short version for my eldest – because I only bought two metres of fabric – the small size does fit btw but with pattern fiddling and my fabric is only 112cm wide so no doubling up.
Now to see if I have the right sized zipper….

Looping back to a previous topic on notions and supplies, please: would you consider supplying/producing ready made cotton lawn bias binding, maybe from your latest fabric collection? I have just ordered some Liberty bias from Cloth Kits in the UK. I know it’s easy to make your own but it’s always nice to have some pretty ready made cotton bias to…[Read more]

It would be a fabulous excuse to look at more ideas and patterns to fit your new body then Heidi! Congratulations on your weightloss. I am looking forward to shedding some kilos also but I find that nursing keeps my weight even so I believe this whole breastfeeding will help shed kilos theory is non existent. So it is still a fact that every…[Read more]

That’s great to hear the positive feedback 🙂 Espically after struggling all summer to even get her to look at patterns.
I’m struggling with pattern fitting for myself. I’ve lost weight, which is great but now none of my TNT patterns fit! I’m trying to fit a pattern for bathers shorts and I am not finding it easy 🙁
Time to put it aside for the…[Read more] -

Oh goodie! Will have to go check the photos out!
I am still plodding away at the pj’s but will complete them shortly. Then will indulge in some button sewing and catching up on a few loved programs.
I am also tracing some patterns, Megan Nielsen’s Tania culottes view 1 and Simplicity 1158 view a – the short version.
I have been given a list…[Read more]
