@peggyw all I can suggest is this: Measure the bare chest of the intended kid, then measure again with all the expected underlayers.
Remember, the jacket is sized to have the quilted vest underneath.
If you’d kid will wear a singlet, top, sweater or two, quilted vest and jacket thdn you’ll probably need all that ease.
If you’re making this as a…[Read more] -

There’s a BIG discrepancy between the finished coat measurements provided and the measurements given for choosing the pattern size. For example, on a size 5 (for my grand daughter) the finished chest measurement is 9″ larger than the chest size chart measurement. Does it run that big?

What about the sizing on this coat pattern? The finished coat measurements given are considerably bigger than the measurements given to use for choosing a size. Help please.

Fabulous! I love those St James knits and it’s so good you can buy them by the metre.

Hey, so I *finally* made these! In general, I loved sewing these up – really a pleasurable pattern to sew. I have to say, though, that while I made the thread chains, I ended up cutting them off and just adding a small hook/eye closure at the top of the keyhole. I didn’t care for the look of the thread chain (I’m sure that improves with practice),…[Read more]

Thank you both! The top is almost done then onto the pants. I am going with the size 10. I never done this much color blocking before so the shirt is taking some time.

Yeah, you might even want to measure the pattern at various spots and compare the measurements to spots on his legs if you don’t want them to be tight. Since everyone is built differently, it will also depend on how muscular or thin his legs are.

Hi Sharon
I was just looking at the body measurement chart and if your son has a 25″ waist then he would fit into a size 12. I have only made the smaller sizes and for a little girl (of course because my son doesn’t ask for creative ideas for costumes). They are true to size I think and so if you were to pick between an 8 or 10 I would certainly…[Read more]

@reeni Thanks. My daughter drew me a picture of what she wanted and the Metro will fit the bill for what she wants. However, you could do the raglan and I actually (when I was looking for inspriation) looked at the carousel dress design lines to see how this would work. I am seeing cold shoulder tops that are fitted t shirts and also strappy tops…[Read more]

I am starting on my ten year old son’s Dead pool halloween costume. (his chioce which I am not fond of but he is excited). I am ysing the leggings pattern for his super hero pants and I am a bit stumped on what size to make. I want them snug but not tight and most certainly not loose fitting. His measurements are 25″ waist. Should I make him the…[Read more]

Yay for bigger sizing, the Sketchbook shirt is my go-to for uniforms! Very happy with the results from the Art Museum trouser for my 12 year old who is starting to be true to size, and plan to just upsize on length (more important in rise than leg) as long as I can get away with it… 😀

aha I was trying to work this out too! My point of reference was more a raglan/racer type bodice that I would add to and shave a bit off the sleeve… I guess more shoulder less arm if you can picture that?
