Lotta, that sounds wonderful. The walk was very special but to come home to a clean kitchen and carrot cake it the cherry on top!
Tamara, I hope you find a day that suits.
We had a lovely weekend. On Saturday, the Fab Five and I sprain cleaned the house so it is all shiny now. Tildy went through her toy box and we packed up bags of teddies for the…[Read more] -

I just wanted to add in here, going with the higher cutting tables, if possible, go with a higher sewing table, to be able to sew, standing up, if possible. Ideally, it would be nice to have the flexibility to have different heights for sewing. I have been after this for many years, but haven’t found the perfect set up. Now that more office…[Read more]

Sounds like a great toy Sandi.
Hi kahawa, glad to *meet* you.
If your daughter is tall and skinny these trousers are great, http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/after-school-frolics-part-two.html and a pretty quick sew for the gorgeous finish.
I just have the finishing up, buttons & topstitching, to do on my School Days coat…[Read more] -

Welcome aboard, kahawa! Sewing is addictive, before you know it you’ll be very picky indeed because you will think in the back of your mind, I could do better than that myself…
Ooh, tell more about the cutter! I’m so curious to know what you can do with it. -

I hope you all don’t mind me jumping in this conversation despite being pretty new around here. I read back a few pages and all the projects sound so lovely.
I recently went to the mall to purchase some long pants for my almost-3yo daughter and was just so discouraged by how little I could find that met my standards for quality and fit – and I’m…[Read more] -

Becky I made a weekend getaway dress in some crazy fine sheer fabric and no way could I staystitch (or stitch anywhere too close to an edge for that matter). I used 1/4″ strips of very lightweight fusible interfacing within the seam allowance and that worked perfectly.
Good luck with your sewing. -

Thanks for your comments, Nicole and Liesl. I seem to have lots of options now. So glue doesn’t sound like a good idea? I have come to agree with that, for even while preventing stretching, there needs to be some ease.
One thing I sort of forgot about but was reminded when I re-read the instructions is to start the stay-stitching at the shoulder…[Read more] -

If the empire waist feels a little too young you could always lower it a bit. That would keep it very much in line with current dresses for the pre-teen to 20’s age group!

Wow, I am seeing some fun stuff. Awesome job on the hat!!
I am pretty proud of this. It wasn’t difficult, but it was my first button placket for a shirt type style ever. My first collar ever. So, I learned a few new skills! And not that hard. Or at least when you have Ms. L next to you step by step.
As I was sewing the last button on, the…[Read more] -
