The snaps sold by Oliver+S are fantastic, I can thoroughly recommend them.
However, you could definitely sew in some poppers and then sew a mock button over the top.

I have not done that with this pattern but I have on many other garments and it works fine.

Justine, seeing snow would be a treat – it was for me. But masses of snow such as what our forums friends (and strangers) are experiencing would be quite a shock.

I am assuming you live no where near snow fields? Well neither do I but I have a hankering to take the family over to just experience snow in the way I remember it. Lovely soft white…[Read more]

My sewing room is not very well-lit at all, even after my husband installed a ceiling light for me. I do most of my productive sewing either before 8am or after 10pm (yay for small kids haha!), and with the days growing shorter I was really struggling to see – I needed a solution badly! I got this type of lamp (this brand and style, not sure if…[Read more]

There once was a quilter named Lizzy
But quilting was making her dizzy
So she looked for a dress

  • If she’s asked for it and you feel comfortable then go for it 🙂 I expect she will rember the matching dresses for years to come and feel so grown up to be matching Mum!

Has anyone used sew on snaps and then just sewn on buttons on the top of the jacket for effect? I have never used snaps before and I just don’t want to hammer anything into fabric. Doesn’t seem like I’ll be as successful at that as with sewing on some Joanne’s metal snaps. Thoughts?

I read an article about the snow storm yesterday – the accompanying pictures were amazing. I can’t imagine what it would be like to live somewhere where it snows (I shall confess here – I have never seen snow!)

It was Harry’s birthday on Friday (12) – so my weekend has been a huge party fest – we had my parents and my FIL for dinner in Friday,…[Read more]

I’d definitely get a daylight lamp of some description, but as to which one, it would depend on which would suit your room best 🙂 (have you posted pics?)

I have a set of French doors in my sewing room, which faces east, but my desk is on the opposite wall and the table lamp I use is not good enough – I’ve got a daylight lamp on my wish list…[Read more]

  • This is a great topic. Marion, thank you for sharing Peak’s Fabric online site. @scglobe, thank you for Nancy’s notion site for this material as well. Now I can keep my Grandbabies warm.

  • I am pleased you have found a option that works. 🙂

  • If it makes you happy, go for it!

    I love that first one!

I had a an expensive but pretty useless fluro light put in above my machines so I will be reading this with interest. I am pretty lucky to have a window in my sewing area but through most of summer I must have the blind down as it is too hot.

I have a bendable light over my overlocker I use for unpicking navy on…[Read more]

Sorry to come back to this one again, my room is decorated and my loaned table and chair arrive tomorrow… I have LOVED putting some fabric into my cupboard today!

Anyways, what do you do about lighting? I think I want to get either a natural daylight lamp or natural daylight bulb in a lamp on my table. I envision it being for generally…[Read more]
