jaimielaura started the topic How many pairs of leggings can be made from one piece of fabric? in the forum oliver + s: playtime 11 years ago
I am planning on sewing the size 5 leggings. It calls for one (1) yard of fabric. Do you think it would be possible to make up to (2) pairs of leggings from the (1) yard of fabric?

Ok, we can try those, I just picked some up at a fabric store a few weeks ago. Probably doesn’t bother you as much to sit on them when you are tiny. Fewer pounds per square inch.

I am not talking about the flimsy shell ones. Just simple round disks. If the edges are slightly rounded then they might be fine. The only thing you can do is go to the store and look at various button sizes and thicknesses.
I have a daughter with a sensory integration disorder and she has never complained about sitting on flat/shankless…[Read more]

Wouldn’t the insignificant ones break when she sits on them (or goes down the slide)? These are school uniforms- so they get a lot of wear.

The problem with snaps on the back is manifold, imho. First, if they sit on the snaps in just the right way, they pop open. They are kind of meant to do that. Then, to get a snap strong enough to withstand the pressure of the sit, they are pretty thick and industrial.
Buttons down the back can actually be not a problem. When I have a dress…[Read more]

Figure skating pants are made out of polartech powerstretch fleece. You can get the fleece with a smooth face and a fleecy face. You put the smooth face out. I was wondering if the best finish would be with serging, since I don’t have a serger (maybe I need one).
I actually just bought some of this fabric at SR Harris, in Minneapolis/St. Paul,…[Read more]

I do it because it makes ironing sooooo much easier. Particularly on pleated skirts! When you are talking school uniforms which get worn every day, that is A LOT of ironing you can make easier with a few minutes of sewing.

I think that is a good point- I was just thinking that since the flaps were there I could make pockets too.

This is one of the few O+S pattern I don’t have so I don’t feel “qualified” to give an answer.;) But if it’s tight under the arms, I would think going ahead and making the next size up would help with the jumper being too tight under the arms. Sorry I couldn’t be more of a help!

Two pairs of layette pants sewn – check!
They were really quick to put together. I might get to make a few more but next, I plan to cut and sew a couple of bubble dresses and a puppet show set.

Thanks Tamara. Green beans sell the KAM ones. They are plastic and if you don’t have thick enough fabric they won’t snap shut once installed. They work well for toweling and sweater type fabrics etc. This style is very cheap (affordable) to purchase and comes in a heap of different colours.
The SnapSetter ones are metal and they also sit…[Read more]
