This dress is from the Hananh Montana Movie and such i would like to know what the white base fabric is for the dress.
The costume designer said it was a vintage fabric so im wondering wehat it could be as i’ve never seen anything like this before.
Any help would be greatly…[Read more] -

Thanks Nicole and Lightning McStitch for your suggestions. And for the tips regarding Lycra. The sun and wet clothes seem to be a killer for Lycra.

@Kerrilyn as an Aussie cyclist I can share some lycra laundry tips!
Wash lycra clothes (bike gear, swim suits, high lycra content knits) in wool wash not detergent.
Always dry on a clothes horse in the shade not on the line in full sun! Now that the sponsorships have ended I have to make my knicks last forever!!
Second the Roller skate as one of…[Read more] -

Thanks for the tip about the scissors and time Robin.
Thanks for that suggest Heidi I had overlooked that one. But I am not fussed on knit sewing. Well to be more honest it is probably the Lycra part that I find frustrating. Anything I have with Lycra in doesn’t seem to last long because Lycra tends to deteriorate fast, or is it not up to out…[Read more]

I think the Seashore is a pretty speedy sew http://www.pinterest.com/pin/73676143877917244/

hopscotch dress! Easy to sew, especially if you have a serger. Easy to wear as it’s made from knit fabric 🙂

Roller Skate is the quickest and seems to look fantastic regardless of the fabric used. The scissor ranking is a pretty good indicator of how long a dress will take. I don’t find the 3 scissors patterns harder, just longer to do because of the details.

I am yet to make a dress from oliver+s for my girl(6yo). So which dresses are quick to make and which take longer? How would you rank the dresses you have made for speed?
And secondly do you have a favorite dress and why?
Thanks

I’m back to having another go at my shorts muslin. This one is an improvement but I’d say I’ve got at least 2 muslins to go to be really happy with the fit.
I’m also sewing up another messenger bag for Mum for Christmas 🙂 -

I’m sewing a fairy tale dress for Sophie. Sized it up to a 14, and did a sway back adjustment. Made a couple of muslins of the top only. The fashion fabric is Chinese brocade so I decided to add a circle skirt rather than the gathered one. Lazily decided not to find the pattern instructions and have been enjoying the challenge. Which has…[Read more]

Sarvi — I am the queen of tiny deviations! It comes from being a perfectionist. I can’t help it! Anyway, very good point. When things are exact, any little thing can throw it off. I have had to pay close attention to an exact 1/2″ seam allowance, for one thing. The marking on my machine isn’t quite right, so I have it marked with masking tape.…[Read more]

I don’t know what happened! I wanted to cry for a few hours, then Aaron came home and tinkered with things and all is well. For all I know it was just a fuse or a surge protector being hyperactive — no lightning that I noticed, and it happened well after the big winds had died down. Electricity is a wonderful thing but to me, largely mysterious.…[Read more]

I’ve made the size seven and do not remember having problems with it. I use to hate doing set in sleeves until I stopped doing gathering stitches on non gathered sleeves. It takes a little practice but I use a seam ripper to shift the sleeve around (sleeve piece on top of the armscye piece) to ease without puckers.

How did the storm affect it Sarvi, was it a lighting strike? We lost a cordless phone once, due to that.
