Hi
I was wondering whether, if I kept the shoulder widths the same, I could lower the necklines of the Breezy Blouse enough so as not to need the back opening? -

Good morning!
I am having some difficulty figuring out how to attach the waistband on the Everyday Skirt. I think I keep confusing myself because so far, the directions have been spot on and I have had no trouble. When I turn the front panel so the wrong side is facing up, and start my gathers…the waistband is still too short. Not sure I am…[Read more] -

Hi @clairemichel , this is a nice, easy one to add length to.
You’ll see that in view A both the bodice and the skirt have straight sides so you can simply add length at the bottom of each pattern piece.
I have a long torso’ed daughter and find it’s easier to guesstimate how much extra length she needs and add that. If you try and lengthen to the…[Read more] -

Would love some guidance on lengthening the Jump Rope dress – View A (so the shortsleeved version). Am making a size 5, and plan to lengthen both the bodice and skirt to a size 6 to accommodate my daughter’s height.
Should I also lengthen the sleeves, button placket, etc to keep things proportional? Not sure if it really matters since there isn’t…[Read more] -

In step 2 the “cut placket piece” is not the 1″ strip you’ve just removed, but a separate pattern piece that you’ve cut from your fabric. Main, or possibly, a contrast fabric.
That should set you back on track.
Enjoy the sewing. -

Hi! I’ve just downloaded the classic shirt pattern but am finding the right placket instructions confusing.
It says to cut a 1 inch strip from the shirt front, then make a row of basting stitches 1/2 an inch from one of the long edges of this placket. This I understsnd. But the next instruction is to apply a 1×29 inch strip of interfacing…[Read more]

Thanks for your prompt response, Liesl! It’s a good thing I asked this question as my pattern would hav been way off otherwise!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic what fabrics do you use for a lining? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 5 years ago
My preferred lightweight lining is cotton voile or lawn, and I line dry almost everything I sew. Before hanging it up the dry give it a good, sharp snap and it won’t need a lot of ironing after it’s dry.

The seam allowances are already included in the pattern pieces. As explained in the book, for many of the alterations you’ll need to draw in the stitching lines, which are 1/2″ inside the cutting lines.

Just got my BBD book and have a very basic question. Do I need to add a 1/2 inch seam allowance to each of the pattern pieces or is it build into the sizing? Thanks!
