I use size 20 KAM snaps because I have a snap press and that’s the only size I have! I’m thinking of getting the size 16 die set next time I order as I think the size 16’s are smaller and flatter.
I made 2 sleep sacks/baby gowns from the hopscotch pattern yesterday, black with contrasting animal print yoke for a friend having twins soon.

Hello! I would like to do box pleats instead of gathers on the Fairy Tale dress – I did a search on the forums here and also googled with no luck. I will keep looking but wondered if anyone on here had done this alteration or knew of someone who had, and if the pattern needs to be altered, if there is more fabric required, etc. Just looking for…[Read more]

Lots and lots of baby stuff. I was certain that #3 would be our last and so I gave everything away. Right now I have 10 newborn fitted diapers in progress and I am also working through the Lullaby Layette. I’ve determined to make most everything from stash fabric, which is requiring a little creativity in the matching department. I know from…[Read more]

Linda, what size and length of circular needles do you recommend to use with a sock weight yarn. The DNP’s are driving me crazy! I’ve got an easy pattern, it’s just the needles that are problematic.

Well, the weekend’s update is that we spoke to the previous tenants of the house we wanted, and they are having big problems with the landlord and getting their bond back. As we had STILL not received the lease to sign, we canceled that application, and we’ve found another (nicer) house to apply for. The owner is in Africa though, so we’ve been…[Read more]

Deb, I’ll be glad to help if I can. For knitting socks- when I started I just bought some sock yarn from Opal and the pattern was on the back of the label. Nothing fancy, just plain old socks. I knitted about 8 pairs like this before I felt I knew what I was doing. None of them fitted because I had not learnt how to adjust to fit different foot…[Read more]

I’m ashamed to say I haven’t bought Liesl’s book yet, but it is on my wish list. I have read so much positive feedback from people on this forum.

I am excited (again!) and can’t wait for the Gail Brown book- glad you think it’s good. I do look up info online but my favourite is reading a book. I recently bought an secondhand edition of Singer Timesaving Sewing book without expecting a lot from it. Was I wrong! It’s a great book, only slim but packed full of tips. Like you, I adore shopping…[Read more]

Thanks Lightening. So if I do it where the side notches are I should be ok?

Oh, and as for where, I would do it so that the seam aligns with the notches where the side panels meet the back panel. Hope that helps.

Yep that’s what you’d need to do. Don’t forget to add seam allowance where you split the back panel and the front flap.

Hello lovelies,
I hope this makes sense. This is my first messenger bag and I’m using a directional print. To ensure the print is the right way up for the back and the front flap I’m thinking I need to cut the back flap piece into two and sew together.
Does this sound right? Has anyone done this and can give me some tips on where I should do…[Read more]

Yep! That is why I recommend the muslin. So you can ease over the hips but avoid that bustle! 🙂

If I see any sewing book my heart starts to race, and then often times its crushed by poor diagrams, lousy instructions and way too many errors. I do love looking at the A-Z books from Country Bumpkin. Their Inspirations magazine is often amazing too.
For pure, makes my heart happy books, Hillary Lang’s “Wee Wonderfuls: 24 Dolls to Sew and…[Read more]

I haven’t done much sewing in the last week between visitors and being sick 🙁 But i just need to add snaps to the lullaby jacket I made from the leftovers from the Swoon Cardigan I made myself. I love the lullaby pattern because I can use up pieces of fabric that would otherwise be to small. Espically if I cut it out at the same time as the main garment!
