We need to see photos!!! I love baby photos!
I spent last weekend making last minute Harry Potter cape’s for a friend’s two children. I can’t say as I really enjoyed it, but she really is “that kind” of friend so I didn’t mind. They turned out well enough. I’m still kicking myself for being too lazy to switch to black serger thread.

Hubby and I will be in coastal, northern California in early May for a wedding. I checked the forecast and it is expected to be in the 50s-60s. That reads cold to my southern blood! My closet is underprepared? So what would you wear? The wedding is at 5pm in a home on the coast. Knowing the couple, it should veer more casual than formal.…[Read more]

often, the pattern minimum is needed due to width or grain requirments. I’ve learned that the hard way when trying to be frugal with fabric.
But, I haven’t sewn this particular pattern.

Just got my Jo-Ann’s flyer and they’re having a sale on Butterick March 6-8; time to pick up the new Lisette patterns!

I’m salivating over some delicious boiled wool at Purl Soho and debating whether to buy the full 1.5yds the pattern calls for with an XS. Every o+s/liesl pattern I’ve sewn has had a very generous estimate… I’ve not bought the pattern just yet either and would welcome thoughts/advice 🙂

I had a sewing win the other night. I managed to make a lullaby bodysuit and pants in one go.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoHi there, I’m very new to embroidery and heirloom sewing. At the moment I’m trying to do my first piece of pleated smocking, does anyone know of any good video tutorials on simple smocking stitches for beginners… I’ve had no luck with YouTube??
-
@kateclemens What about these… http://www.infinitefreedom.com/free-smocking-lessons/
They look simple and straightforward – and are for basic smocking stitches!!
-
I don’t know about any video tutorials but I do know that if you pick up a copy of the A-Z of Smocking, you can’t go wrong! I also know that if you live in the US, a SAGA chapter might also help. I’m in Australia but have been a SAGA member and they have online courses etc – but first things first, you need to know some little ins and outs of…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic what can I make for myself with a yard of 60" velvet? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
We have a skirt pattern coming out for Liesl and Co this spring that takes just a yard of fabric. It would be really cute in velvet, actually, if you can stand to wait until it’s finally released! It will be probably two months yet…

I cannot wait for the spring patterns, I hope they are out very soon. I am still hoping for a blazer pattern or a jacket pattern like the lisette jacket just released, although from the blog post it seems as though this will not be. I love simple patterns that are quick to sew but I still need more difficult patterns to advance my sewing…[Read more]

A sexy date night pencil skirt. That is unfortunately probably about it.
I had a meter of Irish tweed my grandmother brought back from Ireland some 50 years ago. I just barely cut a simple skirt out of it – and that was after I saved the fabric for when I lost all the baby weight. It was a size 10 Colette skirt from the sewing handbook without…[Read more]

I think the blazer question has been asked and answered. I’d sew it, but then only a few of us probably would. I’m will settle for buying making myself one after I come home from Ireland with lots of gorgeous tweed!
I was thinking it might be nice it have a simple easy cardigan pattern. Everyone is on the knit bandwagon anyway, right? I just made…[Read more]

Next time, you could cut a slit into the center back skirt and finish it with bias. No interfacing needed. Then align the bias under the placket. You can actually get a neater finish anyway because now you can more easily turn up the bodice lining and slip stitch or top stitch into place covering the wait seam allowance.

meleliza replied to the topic Underlining? in the forum oliver + s: secret agent 10 years ago
Do you mean underlining with flannel and then lining with something slippery? Or do you just mean underlining with flannel and no additonal lining? Because that will have the same sticky effect as lining, but you’ll also have lots of messy seams showing. You could line the body in flannel for warmth and the sleeves in slippery fabric so it can go…[Read more]

Jay I have no words of wisdom to add on the whole driving on the other side of the road thing as I have never done it! But I should think it will be a really great experience to be equipped with the knowledge of knowing how!
What do you do regarding obtaining an international driver’s license anyway? My nephew has just told us he applied for and…[Read more]
