Tell her to stand up straight! 😉
The waist darts could be changed to little gathers. If you google SBA you’ll find plenty of tutes, but it’s hard to explain in words. I would spefically look for the ones by Gertie or Colette patterns. They are reliable and well done.
Seriously, though, standing up straight will prevent having to adjust for…[Read more]

I decided to just buy the larger sizes. I’ve been patiently waiting to make a few for over a year. But I just couldn’t justify buying the smaller size when chances were I’d only get around to making it once.
I did buy a couple smaller ones with the last sale though…

Not sure where to look for the roll of paper. However, I am a touch embarrassed. The pattern I had issues with was the larger Sandbox. I was sure I had it but only found my smaller pattern. Bought the digital and had the print issues, I just found I did have a print copy!!!!!! Arghhhhhhh
Oh well at least it was useful in finding out about…[Read more]

Rebecca,
My daughter has the same needs. Buddha belly and higher rise in the back.We love the afterschool pants for this reason. You choose the size based on the fit of the front, lower rise. Then on the back you do a small alteration that adds to the back rise.
Nicole, I think in your flickr account you drew a picture of the alteration for…[Read more]

The weather is starting to warm up, and I don’t know why that makes me want to SEW ALL THE THINGS! I’m currently piecing some digi patterns and making templates of my paper patternsn in the size I need! I’m gearing up for a Rollerskate, Playdate, Playtime!, Puppet Show, a non-Oliver dress/tunic and like 3 others I can’t remember LOL.

TY!
front chest darts. It almost looks better with no darts at all. She’s tall, but doesn’t have a figure yet, and the way she stands her shoulders round her chest in (concave). But if I don’t dart it at all, how would I pick up the slack in the material that the darts would have taken up?
How would I do that small bust adjustment?

Can I bump this with my own ISO for Paper Patterns so as not to clog the board?
If there is anyone looking to switch from Paper to Digital, please let me know! I would really love to nab a 2+2 in the larger size ( I have the smaller), and I would be happy to purchase the digital for you as a swap (or Paypal the digital value+ Shipping of…[Read more]

I am probably no help whatsoever, as I love the idea of digital, but I’m a touch type person, and I have a huge collection of paper patterns. My OCD really really hates having both LOL. I have quite a few digital, and I have to say, the putting together of the O+S digital patterns is a much smoother process than many other indie pattern shops.…[Read more]

I would buy the larger size. Unless you plan to make something right now, like an Easter dress or something special. I just can’t justify spending money on something I might not get around to using.

front darts or back darts? where are they not lining up? What exactly do you mean by concave?
Patterns are typically drafted for a B cup. For a child, you might need a small bust adjustment.

Lightning, I would welcome the family reunion dress. It is the perfect style for a friend of mine and she really appreciates boutique (handmade) clothing 🙂

I have a 13 yo daughter who I’m sewing the Bistro dress for. She’s a size 0, but the darts on the dress are not lining up for her at all (though her measurements did say that was her size). She’s a bit concave–how can I reset the darts for her to fit her better?
I’ve been looking all over youtube for tutorials but I’m stumped!
Thanks!

How old is your daughter? Because they grow more slowly as they get older. I’m thinking if you have a long wait, just get the smaller ones you really love now.
I’ve recently adapted an old fashioned clothes policy: buy (or sew) quality and make it last. I’m buying 5 (and making) for my 4 12 year old, though she can still fit some size 4 dresses.…[Read more]

I am in the same boat as you! My older girl is actually the length of a 6 but she is still a 2, 3 or 4 in width depending on the pattern. I mostly have the smaller ranges for now although I did buy the larger Playtime recently since she now takes a 4 width for the leggings and I am guessing that 5 won’t be that far off. I am thinking that when…[Read more]

Hm, that’s a bit tricky. I think I’d buy the smaller range for patterns that include bottoms, as it would be pretty tricky to narrow and shorten from 5 to 2, but get the larger range for dress-only or coat patterns. Do you have a sense of how much longer she’ll be in the 4s? Has she just recently grown into them, or been wearing 4s for a while and…[Read more]

Hmmm…re-reading, that didn’t make sense…
I was asking which size patterns to BUY (not use), if buying a new one! Buy the package size that goes UP to 4? Or buy the pattern size that begins at 5?

My daughter is currently in the size 4 in the chest, with extra length added on top (she’s petite, but long-waisted), but a smaller size on pants (size 2)
In the case of tops/dresses, most only go through size 4, then buy the next package for size 5+.
So…if she’s currently a 4, do I stick with the smaller size for now? Or is the 5 not *too* m…[Read more]
