Sorry to keep you in suspense!
Everything is printed, and now it’s time for the process of marrying up the jobs from the different printers and getting them assembled. Then they need to ship back across the country and get warehoused before we can release them.
So it will probably be another couple weeks, but it could be sooner if everyone does…[Read more]

Anyone else sewing size 5?? It’s still freezing here, but today I’m working on a Liberty swingset blouse. I have some yellow linen cut for the skirt, but I need to order lining for it. The Puppet Show blouse and shorts are done, but it’s still too cold to wear. I’ll have to layer it like the recent blog post, which I totally copied.

Basting will still be your friend, as Nicole says. Also, for a hand picked zipper, a 1/2″ seam allowance isn’t really enough. I widen the center back seam allowance to 1″. I prefer the YKK lightweight or children’s zipper to the coats and clark ones. It’s more flexible and interferes less with the natural drape of the fabric.

I’ve gone right off cutting notches as sometimes the seam allowance is small and a vigorous notch could land me in trouble!
I make all markings with ceramic pencil (cloverline) about the only fabric it struggles with is fluffy wool or fleece.
To mark dots within the pattern I stick a pin through all layers, pattern tracing and fabrics and then…[Read more] -

I may be lacking imagination (it’s early morning here) but my thoughts re the placket is that you can’t.
If you want the lining attached attached at the top but free at the bottom you’d need to make the placket only half length or have an almost separate under dress with it’s own placket. Both would be icky solutions I think.
How about underling…[Read more] -

Hello,
I am trying to make two of these delightful dresses for my girls this year, and I have chosen a dotted sheer fabric. I need to line the dress, but desperately want the lining and fabric to swing independently at the bottom edge. How do I accomplish this in regards to the back placket and hem facing?
Thanks in advance.. If it weren’t for…[Read more] -

I make holes in patterns with a machine needle. If the fabric isn’t too pressure I poke the needle all the way through the pattern and the fabric.

re: How do you get the punch to reach markings that are not on the edge of the pattern paper???
Linda, you can fold the paper to reach internal points. You’ll get two holes, but you can always tape over the one you don’t need. Also, I use a hole punch that I bought at a craft store that makes a very small hole. I tear off the part that catches…[Read more]

Fiber Club! 10 years agoWell I started the pattern part of the dress yesterday and after two rows have already stuffed it up. I “yarn forward” ed the wrong way! So I will start again I guess. For some reason I ended up with five stitches at the end instead of three so I will use something as counters when I cast on to make sure the number of stitches is correct. Then it…[Read more]

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I think the basting stitch idea might work for some things. Like the punch ing a hole idea too.
I read about carbon and almost bought some, but the possibility that it might not come out is worrisome.

Hi,
I just opened up my pattern that I bought last summer at my LQS. It doesn’t seem to have the cutting layout. I would love to see it as I prepare to make this this week.
Joanna
EDIT: Please ignore this! I found the cutting layout on the pattern pieces… I just hadn’t opened the pieces up yet when I was reading through the directions!
