I hand wash mine in wool wash and dry flat (a trampoline sounds like a great idea!) before cutting and sewing. With whatever lining I’m using too, although sometimes I separate them if I’m worried about any colour coming out. If colour does come out of the wool then I keep washing until it stops shedding dye or add some white vinegar and salt to…[Read more]

nzsewist started the topic Ribbing for waistband? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 10 years ago
I’m making N a whole stack of these shorts for kindy from some french terry sweatshirting that I had in my stash. I’ve got ribbing that matches the terry and I’m wondering if it might work to make the waistband from that. Would I still need to put some elastic in the waistband?
I can just do a trial run and see what happens but I thought I would…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoThis is my go to recipe for birthday cakes…
Annabel Langbein’s Ultimate Chocolate Cake
I always make the cake or cakes a few weeks in advance, wrap in cling film and then freeze until the day before. I’ve made this one in both 27cm (entire recipe) and 20cm (recipe split into thirds) tins. I’ve also staked two 27cm cakes, and you could…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoYou know, I do have one huge chocolate cake recipe, but it’s for making a huge number of individual cakes (it’s a recipe for 75, from El Bulli). That make me wonder whether it wouldn’t be easiest to make one normal cake to decorate and put candles on, then make a huge number of cupcakes. Won’t have to fuss with handing out 200 plates and forks,…[Read more]

I’ve got some great ideas, using Popover/badminton/swingset/garden party dresses as the base. I love working out how to make what’s in kids imaginations 🙂 Off to draw some pictures then I’ll be back.

My husband is pretty chunky and I make this shirt for him
http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/jedediah-for-jed.html I do add length and last time I shortened the ‘tails’.I just finished this shirt for him it has a two piece collar and sleeve placket.
I have seen it listed on eBay and Esty. The oversized 80’s look…[Read more]

How about cutting a seam in the Hopscotch centre sleeve and adding the flowing fabric to that?

I would pre-wash in the machine, with a approved wool wash. I use Softly in AUS.
I would treat both fabrics the same as they will be laundered together once it is made.I would never ever tumble dry wool, some girls do though, Do you have a trampoline? They are awesome to dry wool on.
If you are super nervous, wash a swatch first. Wool is…[Read more]

Birthday shirt sewn, thanks to all the lovely ladies on Instagram for their help with button/thread choice.
We went with red thread, dark buttons, two token red buttonholes on a tan and white striped shirt.Onto my shirt, a blue and white gingham.
Anyone with catering experience, may you check out my post in the baking thread?
Thank you!

Has anyone started a Halloween thread yet? I can’t seem to find it.
My 6yo wants to be Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture. I thought, cool, thrifted sheet, some flowers for her hair and we’re good to go. But no, she has a different vision and it doesn’t involve a toga.
She would like a long flowy dress with gauzy fabric that flows from…[Read more]

Thanks @whereforart will certainly take a look.
I am currently altering the b6182 skirt (again) as the first altered version has mysteriously disappeared. I have made this before in a stretch sateen but now am going to use navy linen and light blue denim to make a couple more.

Yeah that’s what I am thinking.
I should say, the 4s have been short for awhile…..but it was summer and didnt matter lol. She is mostly all legs.
After consulting the finished measurements with her measurements, I think I should go with a 6, but double check the cuff as you said. Her outseam is running 24inches, where size 5 is 25.25…[Read more]

Ah if only we could predict their growth spurts.
I made my 6y4m old girl a size 6 and needed to fold the cuffs up on both the pants and shirt when finished but 7m later the cuffs are folded out and they still show her ankles! Arms don’t grow quite as fast thankfully.
My take from this is to make them slightly bigger, so a size 5 in your case,…[Read more]
