Do you think we could call it an “ugly to me” challenge? After all beauty is very definitely in the eye of the beholder and what if like you say, you think its rotten but everyone else says it fabulous – or – (shock horror) it’s the opposite😱😱?
What about a “colour I wouldn’t choose normally” challenge? For me it would be something like green or…[Read more]

I like a plaid / check / stripe challenge. I just made a glen plaid jumprope but I wouldn’t mind another go!
Ugly fabric challenge is fun but fraught with insult. What if I make something in a ugly fabric that everyone else thinks is fabulous? Am I insulting your tastes? 😉
But I do like an ugly fabric one too. It is just picking the…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoI’ve made the chocolate cake recipe (although not in this size – scaled down significantly, different frosting and filling) on this post from Deb at Smitten Kitchen, and I loved it. She mentions in another post that she used this for the 12-inch layer in a wedding cake, and that she baked and froze each layer.…[Read more]

Not a giant recipe, but I would imagine it could be usefully doubled and made a few times — might be easier on your kitchen/baking tools too.

I have a question, how do we define the criteria that would determine a fabric to be ugly?
And I like what nzsewist suggested regarding the possibility of a plaid/ check challenge.

My little guy doesn’t currently have a winter coat, and I’ve been admiring this one since my first visits to O&S. So I’m doing it! Just bought the pattern. This will be my first proper coat (I made the Secret Agent trench coat last year, but it’s not lined, and it was for a costume, so I didn’t finish seams nicely or unpick a few puckers on the…[Read more]

Thank you for the advice ladies.
I am keen to use up my stash so will use the ribbing for the waistband but put some elastic in too. I want these to survive through kindy for both N and her little sister and neither of them are the kind of girls who just sit at the craft table or play inside for the entire session! 🙂
I remembered as well that…[Read more]

Have you considered waistband elastic – the 2 inch wide, soft, coloured elastic from Dritz? I use it on circle skirts and have used it on a a Music Class skirt as well.

Wow @needlewoman you will be busy.
I finished my shirt but I am unhappy with the collar, completely my fault, I should have muslined just the collar.
In a nutshell, I swopped the collar and made it too long and the collar stand ate it! I have not tried it on yet… too nervous. I hope it looks okay, I really want to wear it to my son’s party.

I made my daughter some yoga pants with a ribbing waist and I did have to go back and add elastic
I unpicked a wee bit of the seam, threaded it through and then hand sewed it up again. -

I should add I made sure all those stripes chevroned nicely when they met in the middle. 😊

Hi, I have a pair of Liesl and Co Girl Friday culottes up for grabs. Size 4 in a medium weight cotton with a nice finish. You can see them here.

The waistband is pieced, the stripes match up but the piecing is odd. Slightly off centre at the front and over one of the back darts. Not noticeable from a distance, but it…[Read more] - Load More
