You should try it @enbee you might be surprised. This is a 1m cut and as you can see it wasn’t even square.

I’ve a tiny piece of this fabric (20 cm). It is a knit fabric, two layers quilted together. Really beautiful.
My local fabric store has find this at Montréal (Canada)
in a box of designer remnants at an warehouse. She don’t know the precise name. I would love to find more …
Try for C&M textiles or Telio, in MontréalSorry that I can’t help m…[Read more]

Thanks, everybody!
I *just* made him a black sketchbook shirt, but it’s short-sleeved. So I might see if I can fit a long-sleeved one. I was thinking pants, and I’ve been meaning to sew the Art Museum trousers anyway, so that’s the way I’m leaning.
@lightningmcstitch, @liesl – hah! Thanks! If I could get an Everyday skirt out of it, I probably…[Read more] -

Thanks for the heads up Tamara! I agree it will be worth every dollar, but will have to wait until next payday 🙁
I’m really looking forward to the book, when in the mood I really enjoy pattern manipulation, and I think my nieces will all be getting “beautiful dresses” for Christmas 🙂 -

Ugh, @justsewit, I’m so sorry about the cost! I do hope it will be every bit worth it. I certainly wrote it intending it to be that way. Thanks for trusting me!

I have just ordered my book – I am now wishing we could adopt the US currency to skip out on the expensive exchange rate – I know this book will be worth every cent of the almost $70 Australian dollars I spent just now – 😱 And I am very much looking forward to having it in my hot little hands.

I love this print. Does anyone happen to know where it comes from? I suppose I could ask the folks at McCall, but I thought I’d ask here first:

That’s too funny!!
I will never forget my very first hidden zipper, it was on a School Photo dress. After I finished a flawless zipper I rushed in to show my my husband all excited. He looks at the piece and says “yes that is nice fabric”. I then show him the zipper with a huge smile on my face. He reaction was ” oh a zipper, but you cannot see…[Read more]

Exactly! This is what’s so difficult to convey about the book. I may need you all to help me explain it to others, ok? A women’s book will obviously deal more with bust darts and dart manipulation, but otherwise most of the material in the book can be applied to all sorts of projects. And I think you might be surprised at how quickly you can make…[Read more]

He’s not a kid- but—
Omg. I made my husband sit next to me and look through the book and to talk about the modifications that our daughter, she who is addicted to mommy couture, might like.
Reaction one- well now you have to put pockets on everything. No excuses.
Reaction two- Glancing as I’m closing the book- “a hidden zipper?? OMG how…[Read more]

I’d second the Art Museum trousers idea, but…
You could almost certainly squeeze a City Stroll skirt onto a 1m cut of linen. Just sayin… It’s yours. 🙂 -

The Gallery Tunic is a perfect “fake” shirt. You get a collar and placket to work with, but it’s a really easy placket technique. There are no buttonholes and fitting is easy as it’s a loose fitting style with pleats front and back for extra ease.
I’m living in a dress I made recently from this pattern, so it’s was to wear too.

@enbee what about Art museum trousers? Because it is a wider fabric, you could easily get a pair of these from a yard.

Hello, I got my book today. I live a mere 3 hours from the distribution center, so it did not have far to travel.
I just did a quick peruse and wow… this is great!
This shows so much about lengthening, shortening and spreading. Changing silhouettes, finishes and details and pockets and so much more.
Sewists, Oh my! There is so much to…[Read more]

For him a sketchbook shirt! One yard will make a short sleeve up to a size three easily.
