So, I have done this for this pattern. My daughter’s chest and waist size put her in a 18/24 size. However, She was a 2/3 in length. I made the bodice in the 18/24 size and added length to the skirt and arms so that they corresponded to the right length. Here it is:

Thanks for that tip! I’m pretty new to sewing and am strangely much more comfortable drafting my own pattern than working with professional patterns. It’s partly because my kids are super skinny and need a lot of modification from standard patterns. Love these Oliver patterns but hesitant about the modifications I’d need to make. I haven’t made this dress, but I have adjusted a couple of patterns for my son when the weight and height didn’t line up for a single size (although he tends to go in the other direction – he’s got short legs). My almost 2 yo daughter is size 18-24 months in height, but her weight is within the 12-18 months size. I’ve been hovering over the Playtime pattern for months, but would really like to know first if it’s possible to adjust to make the bodice smaller. I’d like the dress to be more fitted rather than loose, even if it means it won’t last long as she grows.

There are some really great classes on Craftsy involving fitting. I have particularly found the classes by Joi Mahon helpful. The reason for this is that even though I have a dressmaker’s dummy to pin my Muslims onto, it doesn’t look like me and of course because of this it turns out totally wrong and fits the dummy not myself.

I purchased the paper pattern from a store close out. When reading through the instructions, I discovered there were 2 copies of the same page. I am missing the instructions for the pants. Any hope I can access that part of the instructions online?

Hi! Thanks for your note on this. With “length” you mean the area between hip and waist? I think your suspect good be right. I read that in case of a hollow back/ saddle back (which I have a bit) it could help to lower the waist line in the back. This would decrease that length. Correct? I suspect that those sort of wrinkles indicate too much ‘length’ in that area but that would be flat pattern adjustment and it’s too late for that now. And I could be totally wrong 😃
If you put them on inside out and pinch then pin out the excess fabric into the side seam you should be able to get a good fit. Just be careful to keep your pocket…[Read more]

Wash-away stabilizer can help especially because the pieces are small. A quilting needle and short stitch length will make better seams, unless you want to construct the fleece and cotton separately then join them just by the bias trim.The jacket is designed for non-stretch fabric so it is generous enough — the raglan helps with this as…[Read more]

I almost finished my first city stroll wrap skirt. The sewing was great fun so far. Before attaching the waistband I wrapped the skirt around me. And it stows above the pockets. It looks like there is too much material in between hip and waist. Can you see on the pics?
