Hi Meagan, Brittany’s version of the Playtime as a sleeveless dress is the standout model (so love the fox). The discussion reminded me that I made a Playtime sleeveless several years ago. In fact, i should do it again, now that I have a few more small girls to sew for. Anyway, am going to try and attach pics of mine. The pics are in the Oliver+S…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Plus sizes? in the forum liesl + co: cappuccino dress + tunic 8 years ago
@wildswan We’ve ultimately decided to take the approach of expanding the size range of new Liesl + Co. patterns rather than going back and re-doing already existent ones. So the Cappuccino pattern most probably won’t be expanded up into larger sizes. But the newer Liesl + Co patterns, and future releases, go up to size 20.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Reverse scallops and external hem facing. in the forum oliver + s: building block dress 8 years ago
For the dress in the book I did a hem facing with a scalloped edge. To finish the scalloped edge I simple used a basting stitch as a folding guide, then I clipped into the seam allowances where needed to allow the seam allowances to be pressed to the wrong side along the basting line. I trimmed where necessary so they wouldn’t show and then sewed…[Read more]

Hi, I am wondering what the best way is to duplicate the reverse scallops for dress variation G. Are the scallops faced and topstitched to the skirt? And the shaped yoke, too? If not, how do you turn the scallops, especially the points, and get them to lie flat when top stitching? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi guys
There must still be a high demand for this great looking, cappuccino, tunic in larger, plus sizes. I notice that you said it was one of your goals for 2014. Do you still have plans to do this some time?
I really think it would be a winner as there are so many posts around the Internet on the old portfolio dress and this newer version. -

No, no additional seam allowance, just marking so you can make your fox.

Thanks! This is really helpful! Just wondering about this instruction:
“First, start by tracing your full bodice, also tracing your seam allowances (1/2″) at the shoulders and the bottom of the bodice, fold and crease your pattern piece so you know where the middle is.”
Are you adding additional seam allowance or just marking where it is so y…[Read more]

I have made it more times without a sleeve than with, ha! It’s a favorite for summer around here. Anyway, I just leave the sleeve off and line the bodice. Like Liesl said, the kimono sleeve makes it look short sleeved. In this post I talk about how to line the bodice: https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2015/06/fox-playtime-dress.html

I’ve seen several version where the sleeve was just left off. Since it has a bit of a kimono sleeve to the shaping, that will make it look short sleeved. A narrow hem to finish it should be just fine. But perhaps someone who has sewn it that way will have additional suggestions?

I’m not sure myself, but I think @georgeandizzy has done this. I remember seeing some very cute versions.

Hello! Just purchased the Playtime dress and would like to make it short sleeved. Wondering if anyone has advice on how best to do this? Straighten the bodice arm hole and extend the pattern (then fold over twice and stitch)? Add cuffs? I’ve seen some examples online but I’m not exactly sure how to do it. Thanks!

I agree. Double gauze would be perfect for that style!

I think it would be gorgeous in double gauze. I made the top in a really light weight lawn, and that was lovely. I’ve also made the dress using something horrible and slippy topped with a flimsy nylon with jewels on it (not my fabric choices!!). For this a sewed the slippy fabric and the top fabric together as one. If your double gauze was…[Read more]
