I don’t know what PA glue is either. Ban-Rol is really designed for dressy men’s trousers, and it makes the waistband very stiff. So maybe the glue serves to secure the Ban-Rol to the fabric? You might want to find out. But the exact width of the stuff isn’t so important since you’ll pull threads to determine how wide your hem will be. Good luck!…[Read more]

Thank you for your help!
Ok, that makes sense but then I still do not really understand the “Pin the pocket to the shorts/skirt front so the top and side edges are even, and baste the pieces together with a 3/8 seam along the top and side edges.” Since the side edges won’t be even… -

Grrr can’t do small images from my phone. Image is uploaded to Flickr. Here’s the link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/79480359@N03/33955580763/in/dateposted-public/

No, no, don’t force! 🙂
The pocket piece will extend beyond the opening of the pocket to “fill in” the area of the skirt in the top corner.
I’ve attached a photo of my pattern tracing pieces (from the shorts, but it will be the same).
In the image the pocket piece is on the bottom, then the pocket bag, then the shorts/skirt front on top. Hopefully…[Read more] -

Thanks Todd,
I saw this on Amazon but didn’t think it was the right stuff since it said it had PA glue (whatever that is) on one side. I’ve never used ban-rol before but the tutorial didn’t say anything about glue. -

Thank you Liesl! I did just that, staystiched the neckline, folding the plackets. I made up and attached only one of the sleeves – and I definitely needed to add an inch to the sleeve length because I’m taller and longer. I did not bother to muslin the collar. I’m almost finished my final product and I am loving it so much.

Hi,
I am making the Soho Skirt pattern and have a question about the pockets. Because the pocket bag is sewn in first I am having a hard time lining up the pocket on top. I have lined up the curved edges as instructed but am confused on step 5 “Pin the pocket to the shorts/skirt front so the top and side edges are even, and baste the pieces…[Read more] -

I’m not sure if this will be the right width, but Amazon has it. If this is too wide, you could check there for other widths.

Sorry, I mean Erin, not Tia. LOL, thanks in advance.

The underlining worked great for the dress, and it minimized wrinkling. My fabric for both was 100% cotton voile by art gallery fabrics. Since this is a dress, the fabric is too light for me to consider wearing a slip underneath. I would feel like I was wearing a handkerchief! But that is me. I like the weight of the two voiles together. I posted…[Read more]

The red/orange thread should be behind the bar. I was the serger instructor for my local sewing machine store for a while. I own two sergers and have had this problem before, but can’t remember what I did to fix it. After you rethread make sure the foot is down and lengthen the stitch length. I would try adjusting the differential feed, and make…[Read more]

I’ll be more than happy if you solve it and post here how….
My serger is doing the very same thing. I was thinking of opening the feed and cleaning all the lint or something like that…or going to look for professional help😔😔😔 -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Serger Problems! in the forum off topic 8 years ago
Sounds like a problem with the differential feed. Or maybe the feed dogs aren’t moving at all?…
Somewhere you’ll have a differential feed dial that alters the travel of the fabric. Have you fiddled with that?
If rethread get and fiddling with the feed doesn’t work then I’d call in help.
Good luck -

Ugh, wish I could help! I sort of freak out whenever my serger starts giving me problems. Sometimes, like with sewing machines, it helps to just re-thread it. But given how much I hate re-threading a serger, that’s no small task. Do you have a good local repair shop? It might be worth stopping by to see if they can offer advice and maybe a quick fix?
