Eurkea! Now I see!! Thank you for your response. I was fatigued, but made a muslin anyway, and having confused the dot for the size it looks like I made myself a size 4 hip thinking it was a size 8. This is why we do muslins I guess. Thanks again! I love the pattern and have a very nice shot cotton woven waiting in the wings.

Eileen, I think you’re confusing the markings for the dots with the markings for the lines themselves. The lines are marked directly ON the line. The dots are marked next to the dots. I hope that helps.

Eileen again: I tried joining piece 4 with piece 1 at the indicated marks, and thought I’d snap a pic to show how it lined up. Same basic issue: If I follow the pattern key, the line for size 4 should remain dashed and the line for size 6 dotted, but from the markings it looks like 0 becomes 4, and 2 becomes 6 and so forth. So where to cut?? I’m…[Read more]

I purchased Fira paper pattern and am confused on markings on piece 4 (lower front top). I am tracing marking for size 4 and 6, but at some point on the side seam (end opposite fold line) the #s are getting transposed, e.g., the size 4 line says size 8 a couple inches away at a notch mark. I’ve attached a photo illustrating the markings.

I don’t want to remove the bump, I want to lower it because the dart needs to be lowered an inch. The bump is quite pronounced and I need the extra room so I need to slide it down but it starts right at the arm pit which makes it hard. Usually patterns with a dart go relatively straight down from the sleeve intersection but this one flies out to…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Fit of camp shirt vs. classic shirt in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 1 year ago
Hi, yes the Classic Shirt is more boxy like the Camp Shirt. The Recital Shirt is more fitted because of the fish darts in the back, but you can eliminate them if you want that style to be more boxy also. I hope that helps!

Hi, yes, that’s intentional to give you a little more room through the bust. If you want, you can baste the side seam and try it on to see how it works. In our experience it’s helpful, but if you don’t like it you can always straighten it. Just make sure you have enough room before you remove it.

No it’s not the dart extension that’s the problem. It’s the whole shape of the side seam. Here’s a picture so you can see what I mean. I hope Liesl replies to this thread. Let’s see if I can attach a picture.

Hello,
I’ve been trying to compare the classic vs. camp shirt (as a I know my fit in the camp shirt) but I can’t find the waist measurements of the classic shirt. Can you point my in the right direction and/or compare the fits? I prefer the boxier cut of the camp shirt over the fitted recital shirt and am hoping the classic shirt offers something…[Read more] -

By the “big bump out” I’m guessing you mean the extension of the dart that goes beyond the side seam?
If you include that when you box and slide the dart then you’ll have the dart meet the side edge nicely after you’ve sewn it.
You’ve got the right technique in mind for what you want to do.
If that’s not what you mean, then maybe a picture will…[Read more] -

I am trying to make Geneva in size 18 with the D cup bust problem. My muslin shows I need to lower the bust dart about an inch. 67 year old boobs aren’t very perky! Normally I’d box it and slide it down but I’m flummoxed by the big bump out which start pretty much at the sleeve seam intersection. I don’t want to just change the angle of the dart…[Read more]

Apologies that I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. The overlap is probably about 2″–you’re right. So as long as your buttons and buttonholes line up to leave that amount of overlap and they still fit I think it should be fine. Very cute, by the way!
