      Excellent trousers!
    Reviewed by Alla on 10/29/2023
Excellent instructions, pleasure to sew, perfect fit, absolutely beautiful trousers! I am an advanced beginner to intermediate amateur seamstress, and these were my first trousers with fly and zip. The result is magnificent. I omitted the pockets and didn't make any alterations, and they fit perfectly, just what I need for work. I hope I can attach a picture here. I used fine wool suiting. My only wish is that they print more physical patterns because I don't like cutting and taping PDFs. Will definitely make more pairs, buy more patterns from Liesl, and HIGHLY recommend this pattern!

      Excellent classic trousers!
Reviewed by Lara ( Verified Buyer) on 08/01/2023
This was my first attempt at sewing trousers and I’m extremely pleased with the results. The pattern is very well drafted and instructions were excellent (but see below). I still cannot wrap my head around the components of a zipper fly, but that was not a problem because following the instructions resulted in a picture and functionally perfect zipper fly. I made a cropped wearable muslin without pockets to practice sewing the zipper fly then I used an 8 oz cotton twill fabric to make a full length pair. I thought I would prefer leaving out the pockets but I decided to add the pockets to the full length pair and I absolutely love the result. The pockets really elevate the look of the trousers. At 5’10”, I added 1-1/4” to the length, which gives me a floor grazing length with enough flexibility to increase the hem if needed. You can always take away fabric but cannot add! Overlocking all the edges (pants, fly shield and facing, pocket edges, and waistband) at the very beginning made this a quick-ish sew as I didn’t need to keep switching back and forth between my machine and the serger. The only edges that could not be finished at the beginning were the curved bottom edges of the pocket bag and pocket stay, because they had to be sewn together first. There is a mistake in the instructions that someone else pointed out on the discussion board. Step 9 in the Sew The Zipper Fly section says “…push the fly facing out of the way.” It should say “…push the fly SHIELD out of the way” since you are going to be stitching the zipper the the facing.

      First pants! Best pants!
Reviewed by Sjh ( Verified Buyer) on 04/12/2023
This is the first real pair of pants I've made, and they are fantastic. I have plans for several more in different fabrics. Not only is the style flattering and changeable with small tweaks, but the pattern is so well drafted my first pair was perfect. I really appreciate all the thoughtful instructions - there are little steps that end up saving you a lot of time I'd not have thought of, and while it walks you through everything as if you are a beginner, it's not overly wordy. I really appreciate that it includes a lining - that's hard to find on work-appropriate pants, and hard to find actual instructions for their inclusion - I'll never do a pant lining any other way. I used the sew-along posts and advice on making a muslin on the website, and like the examples given on how to change up the styles, or even take the legs in. My only wish? I'd love to know how to include belts loops - I wish that had come as a part of this as I've never done that before, either. But that's a small thing when I am overall a huge fan of the pattern, and now officially a fan of the brand. This won't be my last purchase from this line.

      Hollywood pants
Reviewed by Marina J ( Verified Buyer) on 07/16/2022
This was my first pattern ever and it turned out great. I watched a lot of youtube tutorials and sewed a muslin first for practice. I was between sizes and first went up a size but for the actual pants I went down to the zero and that was a good choice. I still needed to take them in about an inch or two down the sides and I'm 5'1" so I shortened them 7 inches. I took them in a little at the back too to fit my curves better. The 9" zipper was way too long, I used an 8" and still needed to trim it, so I think a 7" would have worked. I got a bit confused with the waistband and ended up using youtube for guidance. The fabric I chose is a bit too thick but it's beautiful and good quality- good for a fall/winter suit. But I absolutely love them now that they are done! I made them to match a top so I now have a blue/green power suit and they go perfectly with my cowboy boots!

I have some tartan wool fabric ready to go. I am sure the pattern will be a success as previous patterns are - easy, a good cut and although of today are classical. Love them.

      Amazing pattern!
Reviewed by Brandee ( Verified Buyer) on 07/22/2020
I consider myself an advanced beginner, and I was thrilled with the results of these pants! The instructions were clear and I ended up with pants that look store bought. The only change was shortening the pants since I am quite short. I really love how the pocket lining creates a nice flat look and these pants actually hold my stomach in and give me a nice smooth shape. Can't wait to make more.

Great fit for a first time trouser
Reviewed by Ronda Trevitt ( Verified Buyer) on 01/02/2019
I don't often wear trousers because I have never found a pair that fitted nicely and flattered my (slightly odd) shape. Enter the Hollywood trouser pattern, I made a muslin to check the fit and after a few seam adjustments, lengthening the leg to allow for heels etc I can honestly say I will sew these again and again. I've planned a pair in a lovely grey linen for summer at work as well as a lovely wool blend pair for winter, totally a winner.

      Great fitting patterns
Reviewed by Elizabeth Louros ( Verified Buyer) on 11/21/2018
This was first pair of pants with a fly and fitted waistband. My measurements match the size 0 but I needed a little more room in the upper hip so I made the darts and back seam smaller than the pattern required. I used a black tropical wool I bought on Etsy, of questionable quality, and the pants stretched when worn so I could have used the correct dart size and seam allowance. But, these were a wearable muslin so good for the first time. They are very verstile style and I will be making more pairs. Next time I may lengthen the rise but am not sure how to do that or if it is needed. One thing I think would really help the novice or intermediate sewist is more info on why the pattern may be adjusted and how to make the adjustments.

      Hollywood Trousers/Stretch Denim
Reviewed by Cheryl Lemmons ( Verified Buyer) on 11/16/2018
I made a "muslin" out of denim with a slight amount of stretch in the fabric. I went down a size due to the stretch. The only adjustment I made was to make the back darts slightly bigger to accommodate my waist/sway back. This is a beautifully drafted pattern and I can't wait to make it again. The only issue I had was with making the buttonhole due to excess bulk in the waistband. I don't believe I trimmed it down enough. I gave up and used a hook instead (which works fine).
