    The shape of this jacket is great. It says that there is less ease than normal in it. However, the pattern is misleading, because there is a table with finished garment measurements. But the table is not quite right. I recommend making a muslin for sure. I made a muslin in wide wale corduroy, in size 40, which is already one size up from my usual 38. But the body measurements for 40 match me exactly. The main problem for me was that the jacket isn’t really buttonable, but it fits great in the shoulders, so I used frog closures instead of traditional buttonholes. The waist ease was not there in the pattern for overlapping the front lapels. If you’re a risk taker, make one size up from the one that matches your body measurements, and ignore the stated garment ease table. I am reluctant to do this because the shoulder fit is perfect for me in a 40, so if I remake this pattern, I’ll grade the waist up a few inches.
