      Chaval coat

Great pattern and fit. I shortened it quite a bit as I am only 5 feet. Would have loved some insights as to how to add an underlining as I used a pretty drapey wool and needed more structure. I used a thinsulate which was ok for the body but too thick for the sleeves. Would have also preferred bound button holes. But will get lots of wear out of the one I made. And already planning for another one for next winter.

      Love my coat!

Overall, this is a great pattern and I'm very happy with the results. I'm an intermediate sewer, I've made a fair number of garments, but never a lined coat. The two problems I ran into were the vent (lack of clarity on which side is which for which pattern piece/fabric, despite spending a lot of time trying to figure out) and the collar instructions, which seemed way more complex than they needed to be. Once I stopped trying to follow the collar directions and just put it together as I would any collar, it worked fine and looks great. I will be making this again in a fall/spring weight fabric, and shortening it. The fit is great and it's very stylish!

Pretty happy with my efforts on the Chaval Coat! It is pretty straightforward (following the instructions as written). Sometimes I make silly mistakes, not sure if I've reversed the vent by accident on this one (?!), but otherwise all good. Just got to finish buttonholes and all done!

Everything has been very smooth with this garment until I came to the collar. So frustrating to the point of not wanting to sew this pattern again. I gave it a day and made it work. Will see how the rest of it goes

...this coat, but this pattern is much easier than previous coat patterns I have used before. Will let you all know how things turn out for me on this coat.
