Oh, I wish I’d thought to do that — I just winged it. They’re for free dress day at school so I expect them to come home in tatters.

I am sorry for Murray’s loss. And you are embarking on an exciting time. A part of me simply cannot imagine sending a child to boarding school and another part of me is all…sign me up!! 🙂 Depends on how tired I am suppose.
We are definitely on the front of this issue. This teacher is a 20 year veteran and all we heard was, “Oh you will…[Read more]

I live near Buffalo, NY. ( btw- it was 62 today- no snow!!- last year towns to the south of us got 7 feet in 10 hours. )
Generally I think a teacher putting make up on Kindergarteners is bad.
We also live in a super diverse area in every way you can imagine. Poverty to million dollar homes. Skin tone of every shade. 40 home languages. Name…[Read more]

Matching across the front and back crotch isn’t too hard, it’s the A line side seams that would be nasty to match.
I straightened the side seams to vertical for my Gaultier tartan pair. -

Any thoughts on the best way of combining patterned fabrics and these culottes? I made a pinstriped pair but am having a tough time visualizing horizontal stripes…

Heidi you’re so blazing fast! Can I rub your sewing machine for good luck? I have only a Lunch Box outfit to get through but I am not feeling too sanguine about my chances of finishing in time for tomorrow.

Yay! Congratulations to Imogen on her acceptance, she must be SO excited! I hope that at the time at which orientation is done, information is received by her which is found by her to be both entertaining and utilitarian!

Thanks. We’re pretty sure she will be placed with the teacher my son had. In August when the list came out, she went to the principal and asked to have our daughter reassigned to her. She was an amazing teacher and she told the principal that this other teacher would be a disaster for us. Our principal has been apologizing since August for the…[Read more]

I’m in a stressful week. WeeGee’s Kindergarten teacher has been a bad fit. Our daughter adores her because the teacher makes school “fun”. I know the teacher adores our daughter, but it is a bad fit.
I have no problem with the fun. Kids should enjoy learning. But we’ve had incidents about the “fun”.
Since starting kinder, my daughter…[Read more]

My six-year-old vastly prefers knits to wovens. I make a lot of Playtime leggings for her. They are her very favorite thing to wear. She also really likes a knit dress I made for her by lengthening the Sailboat top pattern. That said, she will wear most dresses. She does not love collars but I can usually talk her into them. It’s funny, she…[Read more]

I hope you will post photos of the dress, Tamara!
Speaking of sewing tiny things, I am knee-deep in doll clothes to accompany the dolls my girls will get for Christmas. There are a billion free patterns for the 18″ dolls online, but as is often the case with free patterns, I am finding them to be hit or miss. I can’t bring myself to pay money…[Read more]
