My daughter needs a floor length black formal dress for orchestra. I am trying to save money by making her one. Could this pattern be altered to make her a black satin floor length dress? She wants to look similar to many of the other girls who will be wearing this dress: http://www.concertattire.com/product_p/118.htm I think I could just…[Read more]

Thanks for your post, Nicole. It’s helpful to know that you didn’t have any issues.
I should have started a separate discussion for my concern, because I do understand the notch placement. My issue is that the armhole opening in my dress is just a tad too large for the sleeve that must be set into it. What I ended up doing was to slice a tiny bit…[Read more]

I tend to go back to “Fit for Real People”, Palmer/Pletsch Publishing when I get stuck with fitting.

Becky, I checked out my notes on this pattern and I have made the large size and the small and I have not made mention of any discrepancies.
I am sorry not to be more help. -

I am happy to share, I was given the contents of a drapery section of a small country shop. It posts very cheaply.
Let me know what you are after and I will see what I have. -

I’m making this right now and came to the forum to see if anyone else had had a question about attaching the sleeves. I thought I had everything lined up correctly, but I have about 1/2″ more in the armhole than the sleeve cap. The only way I can correct this now is to increase the overlap of the front and back yoke where they button. Gonna work…[Read more]

My waistline’s too big for my pants
I wonder if, maybe, by chance
They shrunk in the wash?
If so, I’ll just toss
In my waistline to spin till they match!I must plan an easy buffet

Wow Reeni, how generous are you. Sounds like fun. You’re also obviously a stickler for detail so I salute you!
At first I instantly thought Nature Walk too, but by the time you overlap the pattern pieces and then turn it into a raglan sleeve (I imagine that would be tricky) it’s a lot of work.
How about the Carousel dress? There you have a raglan…[Read more] -

Hi everyone – one of my son’s friends is getting married. We’re friends on Facebook (cause I’m a cool mom like that) and this girl is kind of a self-taught sewist. She struggles because she doesn’t really like to follow directions, but yet she asks advice on FB when she gets stuck, which is how she and I became more friends. Anyways, I’m going…[Read more]

Could you take the neckline from the Nature Walk and graft it onto an oversized Field Trip? Then you’d have the raglan sleeve (easier to sew than a set-in sleeve) and the collar from the Nature Walk. Are all the kids the same size so you’d only need to do this one? You’re very generous to do this for the kids!

Yes, I second Reeni’s spray starch suggestion. I started using it a few months ago to keep knits lying flat so I could photograph the steps. Turns out, it seems a little easier to sew the knits with the spray starch, too. Much less fiddling with the curled edges.
