Oliver + S

  • There are always many ways to do the same thing, but I am so pleased with the method of tracing O+S patterns that has “evolved” around here that I wanted to share. I hope it may make this process a little easier for someone.

First, I have both digital and paper O+S patterns, and while there are advantages to both, I favor the paper for its lack…[Read more]

I am almost out of time to sew
    Pj’s for Christmas, doncha know?

  • Putting the call out to you clever ladies that alter patterns. How would I do this?

    Thank you!

  • PS Definitely not being silly, I agonise over details.

  • I am very fond of the detail being sewn on the pocket approximately 3/4 up from the bottom.
It makes more of a statement to me.

  • I have a Juki and it came with a manual, of sorts. I find that has all the information I really need to know but I must admit I probably don’t use all the features.
I tend to Google and then pinterest any links I need.
Sorry not to be more help.

I’m pretty disappointed as we’re doing a gift exchange and my draw didn’t update her list until yesterday. I didn’t realize the items on her wishlist when I shopped (early for once!) were last year’s and I can’t return them. I hate the idea of disappointing her and I’m usually a pretty good gift giver.

These are all such good tips and I would definitely do something like sew the wrong parts together or in the wrong order.

Thank you so much, I will go shopping in my stash!

  • I made the jacket in a thick, soft knit (almost like fleece) and lined it with lightweight wool jersey. It was so comfy looking.
I also goofed and sewed the body parts into tubes and the sleeves into something else. Thick, soft knits are nightmares to unpick! Pay attention to the instructions!

You are so sweet Jane. I hope you get some more sleep soon.

I used a rigid rugby knit for Trixie’s jacket, it is very warm.

@Jane I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but round here they say the average leaving home age is now 27!! :0
Makes sense to have some kind of plan to work towards improving things before then!
My daughter was a really early riser for the first two years. There was no chance of her going back to sleep, so we took turns putting her in the…[Read more]

Nicole, I love the Aden + anais swaddles! I also have a sleepsack (wearable blanket) by the same company. So lovely and lightweight for summer babies.

Working on/buying gifts throughout the year is a smart idea!

A friend has asked for warmer clothes for her baby, like sweatshirt fleece. I’ve cut a top from a waffle knit and am wondering about making the pants from flannel. Any other tips? I have some pinwale cord but it’s so light, I don’t know that it would actually do much in the way of keeping her warm. I thought also of perhaps changing the placket to…[Read more]

I will admit @vothgirl, I shopped and wrapped throughout the year as I didn’t know how easy Trixie would be. It has made for a very easy Christmas and I will do it again.

I have a lot of gifts to buy, think 50+ people, so I am always on the look out for lovely, practical things.

Books and Belgium chocolate featured heavily this year.

Ooh yes, no need to finish the seams for felt. Clever.

The lunch box with a drink is genius! I wish I had thought of that!
