Have you tried the fold in half, fold in the edges to meet and fold press then topstitch, to make roulette?

Or use a similar colour in a lighter fabric. My hair ties did not work well.

I know you can purchase blackout fabric in white or black, and it’s designed to be durable and to really block out the light. If you use that, you could use almost anything on the “surface” (the side that shows) to make it pretty. I’m fairly certain it’s lightweight fabric and easy to work with. Katy I made some Girl Friday culottes, and while I have some fit issues, since they were my first ever pants I’m pretty happy with them after all. The pocket definitely works, I have just made one, but by all means leave it off.
I have done that and it still looks adorable.

I went with the lining attached to the bodice and then did a few cm’s stitch-in-the-ditch sewing at the front back and side seam.
I hand sewed the lining to the zipper.

Thank you so much, I was pretty much flummoxed on this on and it turned out so nicely.

From the hem will be fine on these!
