Thanks, Kerrilyn. Just a bit of fun on a cold, icy day.

I’m currently sewing this up in a cheapy crushed panne velvet, a fabric which I don’t recommend. However, I’ve just installed a hand-picked regular zipper, and I love the look of it. It’s easy to do and you can control the velvet quite easily. Here’s a tutorial by Susan Khalje:

I use fotor.com because it’s easy and fast.

Thanks for your kind words! My daughter is 15 months old, but I sew size 6-12 months for her. She’s tiny in size, but big of heart (and attitude)!

So I’ve finished my trench, and regarding the hood, I decided to make it detachable. I put three little buttons under the collar of the coat and 3 buttonholes in the lined hood. It scared me to try sewing the lined hood between the collar and the coat. Add to that the interfaced facing, and I lost count of how many layers of fabric that would be. Whatever it is, it’s too much for my humble machine.

My photos are in the Flickr Pool:

Thanks for the replies! I had forgotten about my little rubber hammer–I’m sure I will need it as I have underlined my corduroy with cotton sateen. I expect LOTS of bulk. Hoping to finish it up this weekend…

Fiona, yes, I love the Roller Skate! A lovely result and a joyous sewing experience. I was just daydreaming about making the other view in the tunic length. I highly recommend the pattern.

Hello, everyone! I’m Mary (too), and I’ve been sewing since my mother taught me as a child. Last year I had my own daughter, and now I’m getting into sewing for children. My first OS pattern was the Roller Skate dress. I was instantly in love with this company, and now I’m working on the Secret Agent.

I, too, cut view B with significantly less fabric than suggested. However, I ended up buying extra anyway in case I wanted to make a matching hat or attempt to add a hood to the pattern.
