does anyone have use for a few pairs of navy pants, sz 8 Sketchbook lengthened into pants with buttonhole elastic and zip fly? One is washable wool with houndstooth pocket linings and the other is cotton twill.
These were (and could still be) uniform pants, no embellishment but reinforced knees. -

finally the photos I have wanted to take for about 3 months — on her, a repurposed black-on-white eyelet made into an Apple-picking dress (with a single-breasted placket, I didn’t have enough); on him, Field trip raglan with 3/4 sleeves in bamboo knit, and Field Trip pants in black mini-corduroy.
Really, an all-white hall is the perfect…[Read more] -

sewing for dd has pretty much followed the lead set by her brother: she tells me what she likes or wants, or I look at what gets the most wear (or needs replacing) when I do the laundry. I let her pick from my fabric stash and she draws the type of garment she wants out of it — she’s tiny so I’ve only had to tell her I don’t have enough a few…[Read more]

No problem, I think it’s the pastry teacher in me that can’t help but help!
Cake flour is not necessarily self-rising, but if that is what you can get, eliminate the salt and only use 8 g baking powder. In the US, cake flour has brands like Soft a silk and Swansdown… King Arthur’s cake flour is labeled Gueneviere.
Swiss meringue buttercream…[Read more] -

i have missed the reveal date because last week i was so so sick last week on my one day off! I have been doing a lot of black sewing though for dance (ballet and tap) since dd is in the advanced group they have to wear black leotards. But of course they can still have fun and individual details…:D

Btw, I love Swiss meringue frosting to finish cakes — it takes care of the egg whites left over. You can also use 6 whole eggs in the cake but the texture will be a little more open and have more crumbs… works fine for cupcakes tho! For white cake, 270 g egg whites instead. Kids (and many adults!) love the white cake with a handful of sprinkles…[Read more]

I forgot to ask, chocolate or yellow cake? You have a few chocolate ones to try so i’ll give you vanilla. This quantity fits well in a 6-quart mixer; it’s originally from the Cake Bible. Bake at 340 F or 170 C… this makes 2 12″ round layers or 10″ squares, approximately enough for 40 people (maybe 30 teenagers!) Grease pan sides, line bottoms…[Read more]

do you have a scale? I can give you the recipe we use at work (bakeshop) — it freezes well and we make our wedding cakes for up to 300 people with it.
Short answer, for 200 people I think it is easiest to do one “showpiece” cake and a large sheet cake, they can be cut at the same time so nobody is waiting too long for cake. Or cupcakes! 200…[Read more] -

go smaller rather than bigger. They will loosen over time, especially where the pointed part of the crescent goes. Since they are pajamas, it’s an easy fix to re-close/tighten them with a few stitches when this happens…

i have a weakness for purple shoes. Blue ones too, but purple can be harder to find.

I like the idea of a neat blouse and skirt! the hula hoop would also be cute, maybe with velvet as the other fabric? Fabric.com has a nice Kaufman one in aubergine.
That floral would also look pretty as an Apple-picking dress. -
Reeni replied to the topic Pleather collar and belt? Your thoughts? in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 9 years ago
is the pleather stretchy at all? the best thing probably would be to construct the collar with an undercollar but no interfacing and wash it, then you could see whether it would work. Worst case scenario is that you would make the collar and belt detachable while the rest of the dress goes in the machine.
