I was sewing until midnight and stuffed the waistband on one pair of jeans. Total number out of 4 pairs done for our trip today? 0!

Hehe! Sewing snobbery rules! Nuthin’ to be ashamed of there! I do the same and apply Oliver and s sewing principals with other patterns now. Some instructions are very vague out there.

Masha, I feel like I play too, and yet… I just made a pinafore/jumper for my daughter. I think it will be a first day of dress. A beautiful cotton and steel lawn. You know that is a great question. I certainly understand why she fussy cut across the vertical line to make sure she cut straight, and it would have been if it was printed that way.

@cybele727 – I’m curious – are you happy with the way the fabric shop cut it? Because I cut large scale prints that way as well….so I’m wondering if that was a good thing to you or a bad thing…

@reeni – I love those straps! I think I will copy/compliment yours. @liesl – I do see what you’re saying….it does make sense! I’ll have to look at the zipper size because that may be impacted. Counting down to school, and not one uniform piece nor backpack nor lunchbox has been made….hmmmm….

Interfacing usually works well for me when it comes to hemming. You might need to adjust the tension on your machine for the double needle, too. I usually have to crank up the upper tension by quite a bit to balance things out. Good luck!

It will be easier I you sew a basting stitch along the seam allowance and the clip the seam allowance almost to the basting stitches before turning then to the inside.
I’m sure I’ve seen other colour velcro at Spotlight in Aus, but off white or black is most common.
Have fun with it, it’s a gorgeous pattern.

I think that’s what Cindy did when she first enlarged it, but then found that the enlarged top section meant the straps started too low down and the bag was unbalanced.

I would suggest a really easy route for this. If you want to enlarge it, be sure the seam allowances are drawn into the pattern piece. Then enlarge all the pieces the same percentage and draw new cut lines from the seam lines. That way everything will be enlarged so it all still fits together, but since the seam allowances will also increase you…[Read more]

Oh no. The unpick is the worst. I am sewing another company pattern for the pinafore/jumper. And I have to go out and get new fabric because, well, because I followed the directions and they left out a critical step. I did trimming so I can’t really undo. I have to recut the neckline and facings. Oh well. That’ll teach me. The problem is…[Read more]
