My gorgeous 21 month old hasn’t quite (or maybe has entirely!) got my name right. She wakes up and in the morning calls for her family. ‘Deedee, Daddy ‘ack (Jack), Mummymilk.’ She is now just calling me ‘Mummymilk’ the time!
I am more than the some of my parts darling!

Hi Enbee, much of my sewing is done for kids that I’m not able to measure my myself so I hear what you are saying. I’ve made the Butterfly skirt, and blouse a few times now, and as Sarvi says, the patterns are pretty forgiving – especially if your nieces are slim in build. If you can beg a chest measurement, and a length measurement (from shoulder…[Read more]

I’m listening/watching the latest season while illustrating fall patterns. Is it me, or is everyone talking at 150% speed? Maybe I’m out of practice in speaking/listening to English?

It’s not a narrow fit, and I think the style of the cut is pretty forgiving. Maybe add a bit to the blouse and a bit to the peplum? I made a 5 for my daughter who’s gotten to be a 6 in height but still a 5 in circumference, and the blouse looks just as nice now, I think.

In swimwear I’ve made,
From swanky lycra, fair trade
I’m off to swim in the bay!The wintry sun is still shining

I finished the orange corduroy sandbox pants for baby C, and Miss I. While the size 3 sandbox pics went to Flickr just fine, the pic of Miss I wearing them, just wouldn’t! So I’m attaching here. Her grandmother tried many times to get the ‘perfect’ shot but missy was determined to play up, sticking out her tongue etc. Still it’s a happy shot, and…[Read more]

Patterns for blokes would be wonderful from the O + S team. Short/long sleeve shirt; smart shorts (second the idea of flat front waistband with elastic back, pj bottoms, shaving jacket/dressing gown. I not interested in items requiring knits but I’m sure many women will be. PS. a pattern for making a tie would be great, too.

I am almost done a ‘Goldstream Peacoat’ for my mister. It is gorgeous (thanks to the help of my excellent sewing teacher). Next on my list is the ‘Newcastle Cardigan’. I have tried a men’s shirt, first I made the O+S Sketchbook shirt for my daughter to practice, all went well, then tried to make a matching shirt for Dad for Father’s Day last year.…[Read more]

😅 if ever there’s a six year old who could “lounge” it’s yours Sarvi!

I think this dress would be lovely in wool, but bear in mind that it is unlined, for one, and a long full dress, too. You’d want to select your wool carefully to be sure it felt nice against your skin, and the dress didn’t feel too heavy or stiff.

Hi, when I shortened the yoke on mine, I removed one inch from the bottom edge of the yoke, and raised the center skirt by a corresponding one inch. To remove fullness I would narrow the center skirt by moving the pattern piece past the fold, so the left and right edges were the same, but there was less width. I’m not sure if that’s the kind of…[Read more]

What is a ‘lounge set’ for children? I am supposed to make one by Friday, but not sure I have ever seen a 6 year old lounge.

@todd if sewing for you means I “have to” take a trip to Spain for fittings then yes, I will volunteer. Can’t make any promises about the quality of my work, post-sangria. Might find my husband and daughter suddenly making themselves invaluable as tracers of patterns and stitchers of buttons.

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI’m another no-intentional-bra-strapper, and while I keep meaning to buy a different style of bra that will allow me to wear a racerback style (which I actually find very comfortable as well as liking how it looks) I somehow have never gotten around to it, which probably reveals something.

Way to go @harmony it’s a nice feeling, knowing you’re learning and improving with every garment.
I just cut the welts open on the jacket I’m making. Doesn’t matter how many times I sew a welt, the moment when you slash them open is nerve wracking.
Add in that this is the most expensive fabric I’ve ever bought and it’s taken a week to get the…[Read more] -

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI love racer backs, all my favorite tops and dresses have them. I find that if I situate my straps appropriately they barely show, but I wouldn’t care if they did. I do have a little clip thingy that hooks on the straps between the shoulder blades for fancier affairs at which visible straps might be a faux pas.
