Well here in western part of the State of New York, UPK, which isn’t universal at all starts at age 4. By not universal, I mean, only some school districts do it, some do it for a half day, some for a full day. Some only have so many spots, unlike Kindergarten itself where all are welcome. Some can enroll every child.

Well, in September my daughter will be going to universal pre-kindergarten (UPK), and the following year, all day K.
Up until now, she’s been home. In the winter with her dresses, we use tights or leggings, and in the summer, b/c she’s at home, if while playing in a dress, she flashed undies, no one has cared.
Now that we will be attending…[Read more] -

I took a pair out that I made. I laid them out, so I could see how the construction with the yoke works, since i couldn’t remember. I lengthened the pant piece instead of the yoke. We shall see. I might have to muslin it, since I don’t want to waste my Amy Butler fabric on a big mistake! 😉

Cybele, I would either lengthen the bit that’s not the yoke using the picture I drew or lengthen within the yoke, using the same method. I can draw more pictures if nessassary 🙂

It looks like we will have to wait until the broadcast is finished – I can’t view it here in the US on bbc.co.uk or YouTube. I’ll have to schedule a little reminder to look it up later!

It is now two episodes into season two of the great british sewing bee, 8pm GMT on BBC 2 on Tuesday. I’m not sure how you get it overseas.
Applications are open for season 3 contestants, I can’t convince my mum to enter which is a shame! -

Thank goodness for this forum. I am working on the birthday party and my exact question for hem facing was do you fold out the placket totally and match raw edges or do you leave the 1/2 ” folded. I admit I am confused when it says unfold the placket or such, because I never know does she mean COMPLETELY?? Or does she mean just that 1 1/4″…[Read more]

Hi Pippi. I’ve been wondering about doing some cotton bias binding around the back neckline too. I’ve made many Field Trip T’s now and only one had a dreadful neckline and it was like that from the start (I blame too stretchy ribbing). None of the cotton/lycra ones have changed with time. So it seems Liesl’s right (as if she ever isn’t!) It’s…[Read more]

Pippi, that tape used to finish the neckline is really for aesthetic reasons–to cover the merrow/serger stitching. I suppose it might also stabilize the neck a bit too, but the fabric itself is mostly responsible for the neckline. A knit with good recovery (it bounces back to its original shape after being stretched) will do fine. Knits without…[Read more]

I haven’t used anything to stabilise neck bands. About 2 years ago I made 2 of my friends kids a tshirt, not Oliver and S, and the neck bands still look lovley after lots of wear.
