Happy New Year, forum members. I hope it’s a great year for families, and sewing, and that dramas of the unpleasant kind are few, and far between – as we know they can never be avoided altogether.
Thank you, T for your story about Chloe’s birth, and of course, for all the other women who have shared their experiences. I’ve never had a child, and…[Read more]

I’m tackling a fake leather moto jacket for my teenage daughter. This is the most complicated pattern I’ve ever sewn…I hope it turns out nice!

I bought this pattern recently during the recent discount offering! Yay!
I am pretty excited and scared to sew this. I am planning to make view B first. My two year old is really petite. She measures – 19 inches chest, 18.5 waist, dress length – 18 would be around her knees. As per measurements I should make a 12-18 month size. I read that the…[Read more] -

Yes, you might be able to size down a bit. Just be sure the skirt will fit over your hips! That’s the only reason I left the ease–it would be such a shame to sew it and not be able to actually pull the skirt on!

I had to google what RealTree fabric is. Are you sewing it for a girl or boy, and is it meant to be worn soon? I was thinking a layette jacket out of sherpa or berber fleece (if meant to be worn while it’s still winter) with bias trim in leftover RealTree or hunting orange fabric would look nice (if for a girl, you could trim it in a rose pink or…[Read more]

Justine-We finally convinced BK to give up her special blanket (Yellow) as it was about to start falling apart. I’ve washed it and put it away in her keepsake box. I think I’m more sad than she is…she was my only kid with a special lovey.
I’m partway through a clever Charlotte orchid blouse for my middle girl. And I had a special request to…[Read more]

@Justsewit, it will come in time! My #2 ended being higher risk than #1 (having contracted H1N1 during the pregnancy, and having taken a belly flop in a parking lot, and having developed a life threatening sinus infection, and having developed serious anemia) and Gigi (@Nicole- Thank you! That’s short for Gabriella Genevieve) was my end result.…[Read more]

I am going to suggest you make a muslin. It goes together beautifully, but has tons of ease. You may not need the size it says you need. You may be able to go down one or two depending. Or you may need the size for the front of one, but a narrower cut/ size down in the back. The back has extra and for some of us, ahem, there can be a bustle…[Read more]

Today’s sewing has consisted of:
1 hour cobbling Lucy’s Sheepie (her security blanket) back together – she has many, many sheepies, but only one Sheepie 😉 – it is really disintegrating at a rapid rate…
1 hour making alterations to a RTW tee that Harry bought for himself the other day. Rosie (unfortunately) has introduced both the boys to her…[Read more]
