I’ve got one more pair of side opening parachute pants to make for school uniform. I had them cut out Wednesday but haven’t got to them. This will be the 4th pair!
I also want to finish her Parachute Polo/Tea party birthday dress for tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to seeing this one finished 🙂 -

Helena, I would love to put my hand up for the “textile arts” bits and bobs. I belong to a quilt group that makes quilts and laundry bags for “Aussie Heros” men and women in the armed forces. Each one is made to match their specific favourite things (e.g. camels, football teams etc) and also another group that makes quilts for kids going thru…[Read more]

Hi, there’s one in the shop section of the Oliver + S website.

I’m having a big clear out as bits and bobs are coming out of storage. Are there any patchwork/quilters who would welcome a variety of bits? Ideally in the UK/EU but doesn’t have to be.
I also have some more ‘textile arts’ bits and bobs, like scraps of multicoloured leather, silks of different kinds that would be perfect for creative textiles.…[Read more]

@miss_sonja
So basically, you lay your hem gauge on the wrong side of the fabric and pull the raw edge to the inch mark you want. Like in the second picture (don’t know why they reversed), I pulled it taut to the 5/8″ and ironed. You would do that to your whole piece you are hemming, then in the second picture I pulled it taut to the 1 1/2″…[Read more] -

provided you take the armholes it should be fine. don’t forget that the shoulders can affect the sleeve too.

Did you hold the gallery and the cinema together to see they fit? Just clarifying as that is what I think you mean. If they are a perfect fit, I can’t see why you couldn’t just swap them, but that’s just my two cents.

You fold your raw edge up to the inch you want. So if it says fold a half inch and then an inch, first fold your raw edge to the half inch all the way around and then fold to the inch. If you’d like I could pop up a pic on flickr.

@georgeandizzy that’s awesome! I made one out of a piece of printer paper but the curved edge on the one in your link looks easier to use. Picking one up on my next trip to Joann’s!
When I made this skirt, I had to put in a couple tiny tucks on the folded-under edge to get it to lay flat. The tucks aren’t visible from the outside of the dress :-).

Just a tip — if you post these changes in the caption of the photo, they will be more easily available for anybody who searches the flickr pool for inspiration and comes across your dress. You can include notes about what size you made and what fabric you used as well, people often are curious about that.

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI am still waiting for my mother to return from States to get hold of my Lisette patterns, so those would keep me busy for a while! However I would love to try the gallery top, it looks really comfortable. It’s my favorite from the new releases. I would love to try the skirt as well, I love the style. Maybe blue chambray.
I don’t get knits easily,…[Read more] -
