Today was P’s last day of preschool. She did not have an O+S original for her last day, but she has worn a lot of O+S throughout the past two years. I am always so surprised when I see pictures of our little ones on Flickr and think “how did she/he get so big, weren’t they just a toddler.” Since it is nearing the end of the school year in the US,…[Read more]

I have been sewing a few pairs of sunny day shorts. On one of them I managed to sew the elastic one over the other and close the opening only to realize that the elastic had turned over somewhere (face palm). Out with the seam ripper.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic I *really* want to sew a tent/trapeze dress — which Liesl + Co or Lisette?? in the forum
Sewing for Yourself 11 years agoThat’s a cute dress! I love Rachel Comey’s designs.
It’s difficult to see the details in the photos, but I’d tend to start with the Gallery Tunic if I was doing it. It’s the closest silhouette to this dress, but you’ll still need to do some work to get the right look. I hope it works and you keep us posted on your progress!

Typically a sleeveless pattern has a much higher armhole than a pattern with sleeves, so you’ll want to raise the armhole when you try this. You’ll probably also need to do a little work to eliminate gaping at the armhole, so I’d definitely recommend making a muslin if you’re going to try this. But if the pattern fits properly across the chest you…[Read more]

I don’t mean to comment so much on this feed, just a lot of my sewing escapades seem to result in mistakes!
I have tonight made more errors on the playtime leggings than there are pattern pieces π
I’m quickly (always the first mistake, speed spoils everything) trying to run up two pairs of leggings for the baby ready to jet off on our…[Read more]

I’d like to make my next Gallery tunic a sleeveless version. The last time I left the sleeves off of a shirt pattern (not a Liesl + Co), it ended up being too tight in the underarm area. Any tips to avoid this? Maybe it was just that pattern, but thought I’d ask here to see what you all had to say! Thanks π

OOh new babies. That’s lovely and exciting. I hope everyone had a lovely mother’s day.
I don’t have time for much lately between work and hospital visits, but I am lurking on the blog and checking out discussions. π

Sorry, that would have been me. I ran some maintenance on the database, and it seems to have kicked out a bunch of notifications. I’m not sure why. Not sure why some can’t be marked read or deleted. Could be a caching issue and they will be taken care of in a little while.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Waistband too short in the forum liesl + co: city stroll wrap skirt 11 years ago
Depending on your fabric, you may need to ease in the waist a bit to fit the waistband. To do this, you would just add a gathering stitch to the top edge of the skirt and pull up on the thread tails to cinch up the fabric a bit. Then you’ll just smooth the fabric so you don’t have any puckers before sewing it. Does that make sense?

Are you looking at the cut line or the seam line? Sometimes the two are quite different especially on a curved waistband.
I’ve also had waistbands slightly smaller than the skirt to encourage a snug fit.
I haven’t made this so I’m not sure if it’s intended or not.
Good luck π -

I made a Colette Mabel Skirt in half an hour before work yesterday in fleece, except for the seams. It worked but even though I went up a size to account for the lack of stretch in the fleece it was too firm for comfortable movement. I’m thinking of cutting 4″ off the bottom and adding a ruffle to give me more movement as I’d love to have such a…[Read more]
