  • I am currently pondering fabric choices for my daughter’s Fairy Tale birthday dress. I’m eying up some Shantung/Dupioni Silk on the Mood website. Can anyone weigh in with suggestions? What other types of fabric should I consider? She has been wanting a ‘princess dress’ for some time so I really want to deliver something she will be thrilled with!

  • Thanks for the idea, I think I will try this with the Lunch Box to make a dress for my daughter! I bet it will be very cute!

We decided to dedicate last week to potty training since the daycare was closed and we were home. When DD returned to daycare yesterday she was very proud to be wearing ‘big girl pants.’ However on her second trip of the day to the potty, she sighed as she sat down and said ‘ahhh, why am I using the potty all day?’ 🙂 Growing up is such hard work!

  • I am almost done a ‘Goldstream Peacoat’ for my mister. It is gorgeous (thanks to the help of my excellent sewing teacher). Next on my list is the ‘Newcastle Cardigan’. I have tried a men’s shirt, first I made the O+S Sketchbook shirt for my daughter to practice, all went well, then tried to make a matching shirt for Dad for Father’s Day last year.…[Read more]

@justsewit, there is a men’s raglan shirt pattern on the Lekala site. I’ve never tried anything from there but I see that Nicole has been making beautiful things for her girls with these patterns. I don’t have the experience/confidence/desire to venture too far from Liesl’s excellent instructions! I was recently at a sewing class and several women…[Read more]

  • I have thought about this issue quite a bit. It’s too bad because the modelled pics show the garment the best but I do worry about posting my daughter’s picture all over the place. I won’t let it completely put me off but I will take security precautions and maybe stick to photos that do not show her face when on more open sites. Deciding how I…[Read more]

  • I don’t have an intagram account either, I suppose I should get with the times! 🙂 Love reading about and looking at everyone else’s sewing though!

  • The fabric is Michael Miller Sweetheart Hearts & Flowers Red, you can see it here:

It was even prettier than I expected when I received my order. Don’t you love it when that happens? With very careful planning I was able to get the size 3T Playtime tunic out of one…[Read more]

  • Here is the second one, I am really happy with it as well. Thank you Liesl, my little girl loves her new ‘skirts’ as she calls them! Next up I have some fabric with bunnies and another with Easter eggs, just need to decide on which O+S pattern I’m making next!

  • I made a playtime tunic for Valentine’s and figured while I was at it I would do a second to match a pair of red polka dot playtime leggings I had already made. It was my first time making the tunic and I love it, it is just so adorable!

  • I have made it in pinwale corduroy with quilting cotton for yoke/bias and it worked beautifully. I used French seams as well which look nice and prevent the corduroy from fraying. So happy to see this pattern in larger sizes!

I think you would be pretty safe to send milo, it’s a processed product so typically seen as low risk. Sending just a small amount to someone for their personal consumption shouldn’t be an issue, if you were to send vast quantities it may arouse interest as it would likely be assumed it was being imported for resale. I think when you send a parcel…[Read more]

  • Definitely! I’ll no doubt be asking for advice along the way, and what better place than here?

  • Thanks for the encouragement, I took the plunge and ordered! I should have fabric by next week, exciting!

Nicole, I have seen some of the projects you have made with the reversed nap, it does look beautiful! Thanks for reminding me!

I will update with my progress on the jacket. I haven’t been too productive with my sewing lately what with my…[Read more]

  • I am also considering using a corduroy for the exterior and a satin lining. Given that it’s my first time making this pattern as well as the first time making grown up clothes it might be best to keep it simple and not have to worry too much about pattern matching. It wouldn’t be a winter coat with these fabrics but would be okay for the shoulder…[Read more]

  • Thank you Nicole for your advice! No need to feel mean, it would be terrible to pay all that money just to end up with something unusable! I’m excited to take a look at eBay, I had never thought to look there for fabric. You linked to some really cute ones! 🙂

  • Hello! Not sure if I’m posting in the correct place but I’ll give this a whirl! (Update, I appear to be posting in the correct space now after an initial error). I would like to make the Caramel Jacket by Waffle patterns for myself. Will a fabric that is 9.2 oz per square yard be too heavy? It is described as upholstery fabric so I’m think…[Read more]
