Well I managed to double dip and get Sarvi’s size 5 project covered as well with my monochrome swingset.
I’ve always thought a lovely sewing community idea would be a “skill swap”. In the way that quilters swap quilt blocks, or people swap handmade gifts. In my swap idea (which I’m not volunteering to organise cause I think it could get really…[Read more] -

I haven’t done it but I think it will work really well. Whether you put elastic in will depend on how good the recovery of your ribbing is, and how much faith you have in it not stretching out over time.

@aprilshowers firstly, that is one fabulous idea for a costume. What a smart kid.
I’d start with a raglan sleeve pattern and then cut and split the front and back and sleeves to widen them. Then use elastic inside a casing around the neck to bring it all back in.
The art smock in Little Things To Sew is much like this. Or you could do it with the…[Read more] -

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoYou know, I do have one huge chocolate cake recipe, but it’s for making a huge number of individual cakes (it’s a recipe for 75, from El Bulli). That make me wonder whether it wouldn’t be easiest to make one normal cake to decorate and put candles on, then make a huge number of cupcakes. Won’t have to fuss with handing out 200 plates and forks,…[Read more]

My husband is pretty chunky and I make this shirt for him
http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/jedediah-for-jed.html I do add length and last time I shortened the ‘tails’.I just finished this shirt for him it has a two piece collar and sleeve placket.
I have seen it listed on eBay and Esty. The oversized 80’s look…[Read more]

How about cutting a seam in the Hopscotch centre sleeve and adding the flowing fabric to that?

Nicole replied to the topic pretreating wool for coat – help! in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
I would pre-wash in the machine, with a approved wool wash. I use Softly in AUS.
I would treat both fabrics the same as they will be laundered together once it is made.I would never ever tumble dry wool, some girls do though, Do you have a trampoline? They are awesome to dry wool on.
If you are super nervous, wash a swatch first. Wool is…[Read more]

Birthday shirt sewn, thanks to all the lovely ladies on Instagram for their help with button/thread choice.
We went with red thread, dark buttons, two token red buttonholes on a tan and white striped shirt.Onto my shirt, a blue and white gingham.
Anyone with catering experience, may you check out my post in the baking thread?
Thank you!

Thanks @whereforart will certainly take a look.
I am currently altering the b6182 skirt (again) as the first altered version has mysteriously disappeared. I have made this before in a stretch sateen but now am going to use navy linen and light blue denim to make a couple more.

Agreed, I don’t always have time to do all the challenges but enjoy thinking about them and bouncing ideas off other folks just the same. It sometimes takes ages to get from concept to execution.

I love the idea of challenges. I haven’t had the time to do what I planned, but I loved thinking about it and planning it, and I will make Lady E the outfit I had planned later in the year.
It’s nice to be encouraged to think about something which may not be your own norm and see what you come up with. It was great that this idea evolved…[Read more]

That’s the beauty of these challenges, they aren’t required. If you don’t have the time or the will to join, then don’t:)
I loved the color theme, I tend to go bright, so it was fun to try out a monochrome look. Maybe a holiday theme? Christmas dresses and dapper boy outfits will be right around the corner.

I really enjoyed getting outside my box and trying this challenge. I think it would be fun every other month, or maybe once a quarter?, to have some sort of thing like this. Whether it is a color challenge or pattern challenge, or whatever else your creative minds think up. Just me thinking out loud here 😉
