@jay_1965vw really??? She was 1/2 an ounce lighter than my baby and she was waaaay lighter than the other two. Funny how it works but if you remember that 2.2 lbs equals 1kg and if 9lb 4oz (the size of my eldest at birth) was 4.095kg and 11lb 3oz (ds’s size😱 i know!!) worked out to be around 5kg, then your little Dottie (I love that you call her…[Read more]

This has cracked me up. Metric is surely the only ‘sensible’ way to go?! Appart from when weighing babies, measuring seam allowances, or your own measurements… or miles but not feet or yards as they confuse me. And obviously pints (unless it’s wine, then it must be ml). Eek. We are a world of contradictions and habit, no?! Don’t even get me…[Read more]

The imperial measurement of babies makes no sense to me at all. I can much more easily visualise babies in kilograms. A large baby is like an average cat (4-4.5kg) – my second child. An average baby is like a small cat (3-4kg) – my first child.
And you @juliamom2009, on my reference scale, had a pair of guinea pigs! 😅
( I weigh these animals every…[Read more] -

I moved from the US to Canada after my oldest two kids were born. All I knew was that my two preemie kids were 1150 grams (about 2.5 pounds) and 950 grams (about 2 pounds) at birth. So, when I’d go to the meat counter, I’d have to stop and think – did I want a Nathaniel’s worth of meat, or a Melissa’s worth of meat….I didn’t want to look like…[Read more]

Nice one @yirg 😃
@todd that cracked me up, your summation of the American psyche almost sounded like it came from a Canadian or Aussie! 😅
…. And made me realise a way in which metric may just pervade after all. Don’t you measure your guns in millimetres? I know nothing of guns but even I’ve heard of a 9mm pistol. How many sixteenths’ of an inch…[Read more] -

The most frustrating part of this exercise is finding out that the patterns you bought when she was in the smallest size are now outgrown and the larger sizes have to be bought🙄. A similar thing to them outgrowing a size 4 and having to buy the larger size range to still wear the style. The onesie pattern is now too small and I don’t have enough…[Read more]

Hit a hige snage! The lisette pj’s is the smaller size and only goes to a 14. I need a 16! Will have to see if I have enough of the rigt fabric to accomodate a onesie instead😕

It’s a very fun print you’ve chosen @madtownmama😄 They both look great!
I am still tracing patterns. I got out of bed to feed the baby this morning, thinking it was 5.30am but it was only 2.50am – must’ve had a power failure during the night. Anyway, I got up,mfeeling awake and cut out the traced patterns I had done yesterday so all I have to do…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic using a fabric with a pattern along the bottom? in the forum oliver + s: garden party 8 years ago
Hi @nathaliecarol I think it depends on the border print itself. If, like in Juliamom’s case the border is “soft”. Ie curved, floral or ill defined, then cut as per the pattern.
However, if the border print has a very defined, straight edge bottom, then I would adjust the pattern pieces and “square off” the hem. It’s as simple as lengthenening…[Read more] -

It can be very deceptive when the hem of the dress skirt is curved but honestly it will look fantastic once it is done. I have a bubble dress in a border print waiting it’s turn (when the white thread is in the machine again) and I used a border on a recent playdate dress. But the above picture is all you need to persuade you to go for it.
It…[Read more]

I whipped up a music class skirt in denim during morning nap time the other day. The elastic needs tightening but it looks soooo cute! I do love that pattern alot.
Today its all about tracing the required patterns for skirts, tops, jeans etc. The jalie shirt was a big hit so I am anticipating the arrival of my package of fabric to replenish the…[Read more]
