Looks like the Popover Dress size chart lists garment measurements rather than body measurements. Looking at the body measurement chart for another pattern, 22.5″ puts you in a size 4 — so it sounds like your cute dress with the size 6 chest can accommodate any surprise growth spurts this summer and perhaps take you through winter as well, with a…[Read more]

I have bought from the Fabric Store and the quality is fabulous. I wonder whether Rockywoods would have anything suitable?

Well done, mum!! Will look out for the pic. Yes, the popover does run rather big but the lovely A line shape means that it doesn’t ‘show’ really.

I love merino on the sheep and on me but I feel really sad that this place uses only nz merino wool☹️ .It would be awesome to be totally out of the box and build somesort of refinery to make the fabric myself, but we’d need all the wool in NZ for that (they seem to have more sheep for their population) and a jackpot lotto win (and even then it wou…[Read more]

@justsewit I have always gone in person yo the Melbourne store. There are stores in Wellington (NZ), Sydney & Melbourne (Aus) and Los Angeles (U.S.A.)
I guess they’d ship from whichever had stock and was closest to you.
Now that it has turned cold I want a wardrobe full of merino fleece long sleeved tees! -

@lightningmcstitch did you go in person to this place or buy online because I noticed they look as though they ship from NZ.

Love the accent fabric @needlewoman.
I spent the afternoon handstitching and both jeans jackets are almost complete😀. I now have to go and hammer seams flat, topstitch, do buttonholes and the more handstitching – the buttons. Fingers crossed I get to do this all tonight.

I will have to look into foldover elastic. I’ve never seen or used it.
I was thinking of buying adjustable strap stuff so it lasts longer in terms of sizing. (Btw- the dress turned out stinkin cute- I’ll post on Flickr). I used a Lisette lawn and some yellow trim. Added jump rope pockets. A little ruffle. It’s a bad picture. But so cute. We…[Read more]

The attachments below are of the ‘contrasting’ car fabric used for the pockets (front and back), and the waistband on size 5 Sandbox. Be interested in any/all opinions. The dark brown cord doesn’t photograph well so I didn’t bother with Flickr, or photographing the Sketchbook shorts. The bright orange pants-two pairs- are about halfway done.…[Read more]

oh dear, poor little girl that she has to worry about such stuff, so young. Tie double bows, and tell her that the boys are just jealous. Good luck, mummy. All my ‘littles’ wear t-shirts underneath the popover dresses – unless they are at home, and it’s stinking hot. Don’t know about the 90’s and tees; Aussies are always concerned about sunburn,…[Read more]

Yes sew the ties before you make the bow and then wear a t shirt under it if it one of those not recommended to be worn to school kind of dresses. That way you cover all bases.

I decided on the 6 with 8 length. It is a bit big but she likes it except for one thing.
She is only in kinder mind you and she said sadly- but mommy what if a boy pulls the bow and they see my body.
Sigh. Feminist mommy says wear it and punch the lights out of anyone who touches your clothes and does that to you. Since it is her body and if…[Read more]

Basically there was no marketing per se. I was looking for a heavier weight denim to make my jeans because the stuff was just a bit light and I found two bolts of denim/elastine/wool in the pile of denims. We get a lot of the printed and pintucked stuff and not alot of the stuff that you’d want to make jeans out of. So because I had never seen…[Read more]
