@knitting1, you have the technique right, but your original photo is a bigger file than the fora can handle. Can you shrink it a bit? I use Picasa (which is a free download) to resize photos. Alternatively, you could upload the photo to flickr or another service and just post a link to the photo there. Looking forward to seeing it!

Fantastic tips, thank you so much! I think I was mixing up Magic Loop and 2 circs, it sounds as though the 2 circs method would work well for me. I had lots of straight needles when I first started knitting but now they feel so heavy and unwieldy. I am pretty comfortable on DPNs but can see how 2 circs would be really useful. I think Cat Bordhi…[Read more]

A clever friend traced the line drawings from the back of a pattern to make coloring pages for her daughter to design her own dress — I’m thinking of doing the same. I have a few pieces of special fabric to go with some very pretty shoes I found for my daughter, and want to make a dress that doesn’t have to be practical, just beautiful. I thought…[Read more]

I’ll second the request for a pleat tutorial, thank you! I want to do the Jump Rope with a pleated skirt and emailed @lightningmcstitch for help, but I’ve gotten swamped since with other work and haven’t had a chance to take another crack at it.

@jay_1965vw I look forward to hearing about which machine you get. Good luck with getting all the other assorted paperwork sorted out!
It feels a bit silly to mention since I’m not the primary student, but I noticed the other day when I was playing violin with my daughter that I don’t really squeak anymore. I think I’d been sliding just a tick…[Read more]

@motherof5 Nicole, Pinterest showed me your Portfolio the other day as ‘related content’ when I was searching for something, I forget what. Linen, maybe? It was kind of exciting to spot you ‘in the wild’ so to speak.

@kmac0107 Kim, thank you, good to know about those Addi needles.
@knitting1 Linda, ooh, Rowan makes such wonderful yarns. I would loooooove a peek at your yarn and book stashes, care to share a photo? Funny, I never thought to photograph my yarn stash.
What do you think, folks, shall we make a Ladies’ Auxiliary Craft Group on…[Read more]

Oh sounds like Centrelink here! Rediculous! And because they have merged Medicare with Centrelink its even more pathetic! Good luck with the social security card Jay and the house sounds as though its one you will be happy in. Hope you manage to get a nice car also.

Sandra, for 2 of the dresses why I didn’t do box pleats in the back (and did gathering instead) was either I was copying a dress or I just liked the look of it. Also on the Fairy Tale Dress there is an invisible zipper in the back that goes down below the waistline and therefore it would be tricky (if not impossible) to do a center box pleat in…[Read more]

Yes, NoVa is northern virginia! I lived there for about two years. It is a lovely place.
Oh my you read reviews of the Social Security Office? LOL. I wouldn’t expect much in the way of efficiency. I think it took me 3 hours from registration to interview to signing the paperwork to change my name after I got married.

Sandra, yes, box pleats can be done for Fairy Tale skirt. I’ve done them on 3 dresses, you can see/read about the details here:

Sounds lovely. Do you have the Music Box pinafore pattern? or the 2+2 skirt pattern? That could help with good width of pleats for child – after that, it’s maths.
Hope that doesn’t sound too brutal. I made a lot of pleated skirts on a yoke during the 80’s and 90’s, and it takes a bit of work but it does work with patience, and big pieces of paper. -

Have to add redoing the elastic in one leg of the heather ross bubble I made Chloe – dont ask me what happened because it was working last time she wore it! First though it needs to be washed ans soaked in napisan!
