You *can* absolutely, but it can be a little rougher in texture so if your child has sensory issues, perhaps check that first?

Check your width too, make sure it is not too narrow or it is just horrid to attach.

I am with Heidi on this one. This is a dress that will look okay a bit big, particularly if you have a bow to cinch it in at the waist, it also looks very pretty swinging a little free.

You sound as if you really want to make it? So make it in the 2T and it will fit, at some point. You can always add a largish hem too.

I wonder if it’s more of a shape issue than a size issue — would leaving the darts unsewn on the 18-24 leave enough belly room while still fitting nicely around the shoulders? Great plan, @meleliza ! I know what you mean about upcycling adult clothes. You’d think there was ample yardage but the seams hit in funny places, and often unpicking the seams is so much trouble for so little usable fabric that it makes more sense to just trim them off. We had no power yesterday for much of the day so sewing couldn’t be done. I did make a start on tracing some 6-12 month sized items ready to forge ahead on them before they are actually required. It will work well with a busy winter schedule.
