I know. If testing wasn’t such quick turnaround I’d love to have overseas testers! But you know how long shipping takes. For future reference, however, if you live abroad (from the U.S., that is) and have access to inexpensive oversized printing we may be able to work something out! Email me and let me know if this is the case, ok? I’d love to…[Read more]

  • EDITED: We have all the testers we need for now, but please see my note at the bottom of this thread if you’re overseas and would be interested in testing in the future. Thank you so much, everyone! What a talented and enthusiastic group you are!!!

  • We get emails from people wanting to be pattern testers all the time. Here’s your opportunity! I need a few people to test a women’s skirt for our spring collection. The pattern has already been tested, but I want to be absolutely sure it’s correct since we had a little grading glitch the first time.

  • My serger theading method is closer to Nicole’s than to the video’s. That jet air looks dreamy!

I love this thread, by the way. Any video requests for this year?

  • I know you can purchase blackout fabric in white or black, and it’s designed to be durable and to really block out the light. If you use that, you could use almost anything on the “surface” (the side that shows) to make it pretty. I’m fairly certain it’s lightweight fabric and easy to work with. (Says the woman who never quite got around the…[Read more]

  • Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.

  • I’m thinking about starting a new topic here entitled “Stupid things I’ve done while writing/grading/illustrating/formatting oliver + s patterns.” Fortunately, most of them get caught in the process, and if not then, during testing. But there are so many potential pitfalls. You’d all feel like sewing geniuses, comparatively speaking.

  • Ladies, I’ve finally found the problem! It’s quite simple. And totally silly on my party. I reversed the size labels for the center front and center back pleats, so the lines and dots that are labelled size 0 should actually be size 20. And vice versa.

I’m so sorry about this! Thanks for your patience while I figured it out. The good news is…[Read more]

  • Or to save them, you could always take a smaller front and back pleat. Those pleats are very forgiving.

I’m going to take another look at this today to make sure it’s correct. Everything looks right, but I think I should walk the pattern to be absolutely sure, since it’s causing you problems.

  • Hi, and sorry for the silence. It’s been a busy week! I just grabbed S’s size 7 dress to check it and the sleeve fits fine, so I’m trying to imagine where you might be running into trouble. The obvious spot is the buttons at the shoulder, where the front overlaps the back by 1/2″. But from your photos it appears that you’ve accounted for that,…[Read more]

  • Ok, I’ve spent the morning checking and re-checking and re-checking, and I can’t figure out what could be wrong. The grading all appears to be correct (after going over and over it), and when I look at the pieces everything seems to be in order. I truly can’t figure out where you might be running into a problem here.

The common problem seems to…[Read more]
