Linda, what size and length of circular needles do you recommend to use with a sock weight yarn. The DNP’s are driving me crazy! I’ve got an easy pattern, it’s just the needles that are problematic.

  • @roundtheworldgirl – you made me laugh out loud thinking of the weirdo folks who get their jollies from women in checked shirts! I guess there’s something for everyone in this world!

  • @Linda – that Gail Brown/Patti Palmer serger book has been my absolute lifesaver from when I got my serger probably like 20 years ago. Great book!

I’m in love with books from estate sales – I love getting a book that was once loved/used by someone – I like to imagine that they would get pleasure from another generation reading their sewing book.…[Read more]

  • Oh, if you like that book you’ll also like Claire Shaeffer’s Couture Sewing. And pretty much any of her books. I also like the books bike David Coffin: shirtmaking, trousers, etc. All very good resources.

But why stop at books? You can buy a CD with all the back issues of Threads magazine for about $65. Now there’s a treasure trove for…[Read more]

Linda: I’m glad you have made the offer of knitting help on this forum. I’m new to knitting so I’m quite sure I will have a few queries for you!

My love of handwork and anything fibre related began as a child.
Over the years I’ve attempted just about every type of needlework from stumpwork to tatting to smocking. At one point I was totally…[Read more]

I like to dabble with knitting although my finished project count is pretty low. I am a slow, methodical knitter and often things get put aside until I am in the mood to pick them up again. I currently have a cardigan in a nearly completed state but for the hood and one sleeve.
I sat down yesterday and practised the magic loop method because I…[Read more]

That was my main area of interest with crochet, decorative edgings and closures for knitted garments. I’d love to see photos of everybody’s work! Maybe we can start a Crafter’s Auxiliary group for sharing our non-sewing projects.

I also wanted to tell you guys about a great experience I had with Brooklyn Tweed. I’d ordered a pattern without…[Read more]

  • A couple of tips for you:

    1. This tips applies not just to this pattern, but to any sewing pattern: Always look at the finished measurements if you’re unsure which size to make. Different patterns will be designed with different amounts of ease, so if you know how you want them to fit or where you want to wear the waist you can confirm the size…[Read more]

    Congrats to Hugo!

My husband finished building his 3D printer last night and did a few test prints. It is so cool!

He promised to print out some buttons for me and the girls have both commissioned loads of stuff. My 7 yo wants Barbie armour, hangers for her Build-a-Bear armoire and she started designing a castle in the design software.

    He’s f…[Read more]

  • 🙂 That would be a trial run, not a trail run, dear oh dear…

If it was any other fabric, I would say, ‘Go for it’. I know your time is super precious, but so is Liberty. 😉

Welcome back Fee, I hope you have fun sewing up all those little things.

I must admit, I love a birth story, you would have think I had had enough but they always thrill me. If anyone else is inspired to write theirs, feel free. (Or post links)

Thank you for your best wishes, just a straight forward Gall Bladder removal, I fit the criteria of…[Read more]

  • Thinking of the shape, I would extend from the bottom, following the A-line but I would definitely make a trial run before cutting the Liberty.
You could use it as a nightie.

I would add a fair bit of length, a few inches not just a few cm’s.
