Nicole replied to the topic How to cut faux fur to trim hood in the forum oliver + s: school days 9 years ago
Hi @kmac0107, you really don’t want it stretching as you sew, that will pucker the hood once the seam relaxes.
It is hard to advise without seeing the fabric, does it have a pile/nap?
My sewing mind says across the grain for the best result of the look of the fur (perhaps hand baste and sew very slowly to avoid stretching) but my logical mind…[Read more]

Everyone is busy with holdiays and family (I am busy nursing a sore head).
I have been attempting to trace and cut patterns in a larger size for the baby now so I can get straight on with the fun stuff.
I should be sewing boy things (but I have lost my patience with vague instructions written by people who don’t normally speak English it seems).…[Read more]

@cybele727 that sounds exactly like something I’d be prone to doing. I do that with pattern pieces! And speaking of, I had to go and print out yet another copy of the puppet show shorts today because it seems to have grown legs and walked (again!) one day I will find the hoard of hidden puppet show patterns😜

Nicole replied to the topic Has anyone made the class picnic shorts for a boy? in the forum oliver + s: class picnic 9 years ago
@JWo ,I must confess, when I made these https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/7738716408/in/album-72157626639099661/ I made them with the hand-down-in-mind for a boy.
I would absolutely put hem on a boy and definitely in a plain colour. -

I had planned to sew during Chloë’s naptimes but unfortunately my melancholy mood has had me not getting to that point! I have been Christmas shopping online instead. Maybe I might feel a bit happier after I help the guys shift machinery home and will want to go and shut myself away after the baby goes to bed tonight. It is a little difficult…[Read more]

Brenda – YES, I found those patterns! I used the jumper pattern for Molly (which was the original doll I owned) as the base for all the dresses I sewed and it worked great.
Good luck with your jacket. My husband has a soft shell that he loves – but it cost an arm and a leg; even $20 fabric is a bargain in comparison!
I am finding myself with…[Read more]

I am starting to think that this lingering bug is now wreaking havoc with my brain! I gathered up my supplies and patterns in hand decided to set up at the dining table to trace the next size off, 12-18 months whilst Chloë was asleep. I was tracing the sailboat pattern (because the kid has hips and even though I did trace the 6-12 month size in…[Read more]

With the kids fed and watered early tonight, I might be able to get into the sewing room.
I have decided everyone in the immediate family will receive a clothing parcel from me this year, to boost up the closet choice and to save time on trying to find something else.
They will each get a pair of pj’s (boys will have sleep shorts)
and an outfit…[Read more] -

Oh hilariously funny! It is good to have a chuckle at all this.
When my son was born I was listing off all the things this boy was going to learn from me, to my mil. She fairly laughed! But you know save for a few things that he is yet to learn, we are doing alright. I may yet one day make any prospective daughter in law of mine very proud!
The…[Read more]
