Funny this thread should pop up again. I got some funny looks over buying what the gal at the shop thought was way too much yardage for a small project — but it had a directional print, and I was making the pattern for the first time. I managed to make SO many mistakes — from tracing the wrong grain line (so I had the print running sideways), to…[Read more]

The big navy back to school sewathon was going great guns, but now I’ve had a stuff up.
Somehow, the front waistband of my Class Picnic shorts was too big. My fabric had a bit of stretch, so I made it fit. Doh. Big, sticky out wavy waistband.
It will need to be unpicked, shortened, and reattached.
Tomorrow.
Nit sure where I went wrong. I’m usually…[Read more] -

so the good news is Murray has his cast off! The bad news is he has to straighten his arm by the time he goes back to physio (in a little over a week) and if it isn’t then the arm will heal crooked and it will have to be broken and reset and we will have to start all over again. He has another xray in five weeks and hopefully he will be given the…[Read more]

I managed to finish just one pyjama top in all that time! My new labels came so they are sitting neatly on them and like I thought, look like something out of a boutique! I finished the Heather Bailey Lottie da ones first, as requested and had to say no to her wearing them last night. We have to wear them at the sleepover and she agreed.
I will…[Read more]

Heidi YES! The firefly is one pattern I have but have never used. That would be perfect and the zipper on the angle is what I was thinking. Maybe it is an idea for a challenge? A mini moto jacket hack the oliver and s pattern challenge! Oh the inspiration that would come from that would be awesome!

Now that’s another one I want to try for my non denim loving (because it is apparently itchy) teen.

It’s really good to hear that we will get to sink our sewing teeth into something with a bit of bite to it. I can see how you’d be frustrated by people wanting simple minimal pattern piece designs Liesl. If they wanted that then really it would be a no pattern piece situation and just make a sarong or something – or do what my daughter does and…[Read more]

I buy mine from Spotlight and they have a range but my daughter especially complains that the denim itches her skin, even after washing. The stretchier stuff is quite thin and I am yet to see any denim that resembles that of well made rtw jeans.
I know Fabric.com have a range and I have bought from them also (way back when the exchange rate was…[Read more]

Well I spent the morning going hammer and tongs at the sewing machines and have now completed two pairs of pyjama pants view c from Lisette B6296. I made the 14 as per her measurements in her waist (her hips are virtually non existent as yet.) and thought they looked too big once they were made but after she tried them on, they were pronounced…[Read more]

@Enbee, I love the Jalie stretch jeans. They have mid and high rise and are a boot cut. Best thing is the many many sizes cater for both kids and adults (which can be a plus). I also have the jeans pattern by Angela Wolf but I haven’t used it as yet. I have done a craftsy class with her teaching how to make them though. They look fantastic and are…[Read more]

I wonder if the Secret Agent was a lined jacket if that would have made a difference.
My blog post re lining it gets a lot of hits.I like @reeni idea of a multi size system too.
A shirt/blouse and a new shorts pattern would be super appreciated too.

@Enbee I cannot recommend the Ginger jeans enough and they have just released a boot cut version.
The zip fly instructions are the best I have ever used.

It sounds so colourful – it’s a favourite story in our house (even though Chloë prefers Possum Magic right now) – she has a rag book she often “reads”.
I am confident both pairs will be done before Wednesday evening (Friday is departure day) but I am worried there will be other things in dire need at the last minute. Take for instance my request…[Read more]
