I used to shop unwanted fabric around…asking sewing friends if they were interested, offering it to schools, posting it on freecycle and/or craigslist. But it involved a lot of effort and when I’m ready to get rid of something, I want it gone. Now I drop it off at our local thrift shop.;)

Janice, I used the size that their measurements corresponded to. It worked out well!;)

Oh No! I’m so sorry that you all are having to deal with this, especially with a new baby at home. You, your husband, and the kids are in my thoughts and prayers. (((Hugs)))

I really like both top patterns and will be purchasing as soon as I have a little extra “me” money. The Gallery top looks like it would be the perfect top (made in a voile or gauze) to throw on over a tank top or camisole for the slightly cooler summer nights at the beach. I probably won’t make it as a dress as I like my dresses to be more fitted. I think (hope) that the Maritime pattern will interest my just about 16 year old. It should since it has a slimmer silhouette.

I have no opinions regarding the skirt pattern as I really don’t wear skirts very often.

I’m like Masha…I prefer cotton/lycra knits when I sew for the kids. It’s relatively easy to work with and seems to hold up well. My personal rule of thumb is to use 8-10 oz. weight fabrics for tops and dresses. 🙂

This is a fun thread! Thanks for starting it, Nicole.:)

Hands down, the most worn O+S item in our house:
    Sketchbook Shorts

Patrick wore the shorts constantly the last 2 years. If they were clean (and sometimes when they weren’t!) he wore them.;)

Thank you so much for compiling all the line drawings and sharing them, Lotta! You’re awesome!

Justine-We finally convinced BK to give up her special blanket (Yellow) as it was about to start falling apart. I’ve washed it and put it away in her keepsake box. I think I’m more sad than she is…she was my only kid with a special lovey.

I’m partway through a clever Charlotte orchid blouse for my middle girl. And I had a special request to make a pleather moto jacket for my 15 year old. She wants it for a school dance that’s tomorrow evening…we’ll see!

My Lisette Diplomat Tunic was the most viewed/favorited flickr photo for me. I’m pretty sure that was due to Explore. It’s such a dorky photo of me!lol My top 9 “interesting” photos on flickr are all Oliver + S (and 1 Lisette). The ruffle Class Picnic shorts and School Days raincoats are some of my personal favorites and they were #1 and #3 respectively.

I did okay with mine. I sewed more for me (thanks to pattern testing) and used patterns and fabric that I had in my stash. I think I only bought a handful of new patterns. I was also a bit more intentional with my fabric purchases. But lack of discipline is still an issue!

    @Sarvi
Those one-yard cuts of quilting cottons that seemed like a good idea at the time can become overwhelming. Any specific plan for yours?

    In 2015 I want to:

-purge my fabric and pattern stash and only keep what I love
(I’ve discovered that having a large fabric/pattern stash is more of a burden to me than a fabulous resource.)

-keep my sewing supplies/room neat and organized and at a manageable size (see above) so that it doesn’t end up all over the house
(Right now, I have sewing stuff downstairs in our dining room and in our master bedroom because there isn’t space for it all in my sewing room.)

-clean up completely after I finish a project before starting a new one so I don’t end up with a milk crate full of pattern tracings that need to be filed and random notions everywhere

    -sew what I love!

    Happy New Year!!

It’s rough not having a good nights sleep…for both mom and kid! I hope the suggestions help, Jane. The Gro clock was going to be my piece of advice. It’s helped a lot of my friends with older kids (not baby/toddler) stay in bed.

This is one of the few O+S pattern I don’t have so I don’t feel “qualified” to give an answer.;) But if it’s tight under the arms, I would think going ahead and making the next size up would help with the jumper being too tight under the arms. Sorry I couldn’t be more of a help!

@todd I, for one, find the behind the scenes info fascinating! Sounds like S is built a lot like my oldest. That’s part of the reason why I sew as RTW that fits was hard to find, especially during the tween years.

My tried and true method of making sure a t-shirt neckband is going to fit is to pull it on over my own head. Obviously it wouldn’t work if you’re sewing for babies but for pre-schoolers on up, it’s been fool proof.;)

I didn’t seal the seams in the raincoats I made and there was plenty of topstitching. I didn’t have any issues with water seeping in. Granted the raincoats are not worn for long out in the rain. Usually just to/from the bus stop.;)
