Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoThe hem tucks I was referring to are also called growth tucks. I use that method every chance and a tute is here:https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=5163707322010726966#editor/target=post;postID=5881343318468516870;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=100;src=postname

My least worn, but personal favorite, was Abby’s Ice Cream top: https://www.flickr.com/photos/52761227@N04/8068829007/in/album-72157631200589734/
She wore it less than 5 times.
She had two hopscotch tops she wore holes in to, one that she would wear multiple times a week.Jack wears his sandbox pant/shorts multiple times a week. I told him…[Read more]

Lots of great reading and some great tips.
After quizzing my chiblings we worked out the most worn was this https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/5444046339/in/set-72157625138776927
A Sailboat top in navy/white cotton lycra. Liddy is now wearing it after it was passed on to the Twins. -

*From memory* you will need to add maybe an inch or so to the top of the shorts?
I would add extra, sort of pin (with safety pins) the skirt and shorts together, and try them on the child. If you take out the placket, make sure the skirt will be wide enough to pull up.
I, very recently, added the Tea Party bloomers to the Hopscotch skirt, it…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic Fit on Sunday Brunch in the forum oliver + s: sunday brunch 10 years ago
I found the Sunday Brunch a fait-to-generous fit. I would not have layered it over a jumper (sweater) but my girls always got a good amount of wear from their corresponding size.
The added bonus is it looks really cute a little fitted.

(this is the 6-12 months on my 18…[Read more] -

I have a pair of Layette pants and a bodysuit pinned to some Lisette lisette ready to make into pyjamas for baby Chloe. Both are size 0-3 months.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years ago@FrancesSuzanne that sounds very exciting – proof that great minds are very much thinking alike here!
So how are you going to do them? Twin needle? Folded? Please not corded (I don’t know if this will work with a crosshatch). I haven’t done the crosshatch either but I am intrigued and can’t wait for all to be revealed.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years ago@Deb Yes, tucks on the lullaby layette would be super sweet!! Don’t you want to do the math for US?? @withloveheidi Growth tucks = GENIUS!!! Must remember that… @justsewit Sewing crosshatched tucks are in our near future :). We’ve not attempted these yet, so wish us luck!

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoI have always thought the yoke on the playdate dress would lend itself well to pintucks sewn in a crosshatch design …. but then it lends itself well to all sorts of methods.
You could use tucks on the picnic top instead of gathers to see how that would work. Or make a feature panel on the library dress.
Deb, are you sure you don’t know how to…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoWhenever possible, I use the tucked hem method on O+S patterns. On occasion, I’ve made 2 tucks on the hem and added embroidery on one of the tucks.
I’d like to see pin tucks on the Lullaby (onesie). You could figure out how much width to add to the front pieces saving me the effort (LOL!) because as you know my sewing room is in dispose.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoHi all! We’ve got an upcoming post over on the O+S blog about using the “heirloom technique” of tucks in Oliver and S Patterns. Not the ones that already have them….like the Family Reunion or Music Class…but thinking out of the box a bit more. Anyway, we’ve selected 2 O+S patterns to incorporate tucks within. QUESTION: Which patterns would you…[Read more]

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoMy stepmom got me a CostCo gift card for Christmas. This might sound like a weird gift, but actually, I loved it. There certain things I’m weirdly stingy about, like Swiffers and Magic Erasers. I now have a lifetime supply of those. I did sneak in a few non-practical items, like an ENORMOUS bag of shelled pistachios. As I discovered the last time…[Read more]

Such an interesting topic. What is it about certain garments that gets them so much wear, and others so little? Fabric is a big part of it, as mentioned above. I made an After School top in a very light cream cotton and piped the top — the body of it was so light that the shirt became top heavy and was always skewing off one shoulder. Then I made…[Read more]

My sweet Liddy turned 11 today and I made her a red sunhat, at her request.
It was the Sunkissed sunhat but I did go all LTTS bucket hat on the construction. - Load More
