Has anyone done French seams for the side seams of the sketchbook shirt? I was thinking I would like to try but didn’t know if it would get too bulky under the arm or on the hems.

A sewing friend did this and it turned out well.

As long as the fabric is not too thick and maybe tap the under arm seam with a clean hammer to soften and flatten the bulk.

Not with this particular shirt, but if my fabric isn’t too thick I always try to use French seams for the sides. I feel like it adds extra strength.

I have got quilting cotton – would this be okay?

You can do French seams with quilting cotton that will be fine.

I have done the Sketchbook shirt in quilting cotton with French seams on the sides and bound shoulder seams, it turned out lovely!
