Kirsty, resolutions ALWAYS start after birthdays.
It is in the rules.
True dinks.

10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitWell if it is in the rules Nicole, it means I’d have to wait until December to even START the new years resolution! How I wish I was born at the proper time of January.
Kirsty, have a fun 30th birthday in London shopping. Live it up big 30’s are a fun decade.
10 years ago LINKSewingmama @SewingmamaI would love to hear about the rota system for sewing that was mentioned. Could you explain it, please?
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Sewingmama, it is simply a matter of sewing for each member of my family, one after the other. Two pieces if it is not too complicated (shirt&skirt) or one item if it is a bigger things (jeans or a dress).
It diversifies my sewing and keeps everyone happy and stops me making too many clothes for my youngest (pretty dresses are my favourite).

10 years ago LINKthejennigirl @thejennigirlI feel so behind because I haven’t stayed on top of posting everything I sewed for the kids for the past year, mostly due to my laptop’s motherboard biting the dust and the old back up laptop not being compatible with, well, anything. Got a new laptop on Black Friday, and now I am back! LOL
My resolution is to get my kitchen knives sharpened, something I keep forgetting to have done, remember every time I cook, and forget by the next day. But my goals for the year on the sewing front include:
Wallpaper, paint, and move into my new sewing studio (!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Actually sew up some my sketches (!!!!!!!!!)
Organize all my sewing supplies and fabric into a usable and functional order
I already ordered my new business cards, since I’m venturing out on my own and away from the shoppe front I formerly worked under, and a window decal.
Here’s to a brilliant and wonderful New Year!
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiJust realised I would like to learn/workout/practice sewing knit bindings similar to bias bindings. I can sew lovely neck, sleeve and hem bands on knit shirts but I would also like to try and perfect some other methods of sewing knit bindings for different situations.
10 years ago LINKmeleliza @melelizaSo I think my plan this year is actually to sew less for myself, but with more purpose. Now that I’m done with babies and baby weight (just a few more pounds) I feel like I can really focus on building a good wardrobe. Over on the Colette Patterns blog, there is a new series just on this topic.
I’d also like to practice more advanced techniques and learn to work with knits. I would love a silk jersey wrap dress!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I need to sew more for my husband, he has put on weight so I need to work on adjusting patterns to fit him. He does eat well but with two bad knees he just can’t exercise like he should.
Why shouldn’t he have nicely fitting clothes too?
He is quite envious of Hugo’s wardrobe.
A silk jersey wrap dress sounds divine.
10 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviLucky Jed to get the dad’s version of Hugo’s swanky wardrobe! I could definitely go for a silk jersey wrap dress, sounds amazing.
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI would just like to own some silk jersey – the dress can obviously come later.
I need to not order so much fabric! I have to try (very hard) to restrain myself but I honestly can’t help it! It is like my collection – Murray collects chooks and I collect fabric! I just have to put a limit on the parcels to only one or two a month instead of more and maybe have a break and go every second month or something. Of course it will depend on what I plan to make but the aim is to plan for specific projects that must be done within three month of the fabric being ordered.
Hopefully that won’t be too much to ask of myself.
I have to really and truly do a quilt for our bed! I have it underway but it is now a huge priority!
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI have finally pinned ready to be quilted one of the two quilt tops I have had in the cupboard for the last 3 and a half years! They have been on the my to do list for the past 2 years and now one of them is ready to be worked on! I’m just going to do a basic stitch I the ditch. I’m looking forward to having it done and in use before he gets to old for pirates!
10 years ago LINKHeidi, that is great! I hope you will post photos when it is done.
I went back and read my own resolution (after all, we are 5/12 of the way through the year!) and I don’t think I will make it this year. I had resolved to make 75% of my kids’ clothing but with the impending move and the months I will be out of sewing commission, my kids will definitely be getting RTW to fill summer wardrobe gaps and probably fall as well. But I’ll make up for it in the winter 🙂
10 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727I won’t make it with the men’s clothes (stand collar/button placket), but I did some fitting and had a weekend shopping in NYC. As I was having my fabric cut at Mood Fabrics, I was chatting with the cutting girl. She said to avoid Mood on Fridays and Saturdays. Those are tourist days where people buy a single yard and don’t know what to do with it, but can say that they came to mood. She then said, “oh the designers come in on Monday and Tuesday, usually.” So, as I was paying, I saw this Asian woman walk in very purposefully with 2 male assistants. I thought, “gee, I think I know her.” Then I said internally, “No, you don’t KNOW her, you know OF her.” It was Vera Wang. That. Was. Cool.
I wasn’t so gauche as to photo her! But boy did I want to!
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Um yes, how exciting!!!!
I have a Mood bag I take to Spotters, Sarvi got it for me.
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitI take any old bag I can grab on my way out the door! Not particular, me!
I was just reading my last post. What rot! Gosh some of the things this woman is thinking would drive me crazy! The bed quilt is still in bits and is very likely to be until I can get to it (hopefully not in twenty years time). And the three month rule, well that means I have a heck of a lot of knit sewing to do and I have to use the wee wander up already?? Oh I think that is just slightly unrealistic. I am abolishing my own rule!
I haven’t ordered anything for months and now I have three parcels on their way.
The truth is, I think I just want to wing it where projects and use of fabric are concerned. After all, we are entitled to change our minds. I seem to have a lot of scraps so they will be used on the baby (some how) and the smaller bits can by cut into precut pieces for experimental sewing and for the kids to sew with.
My goals have changed slightly I think because of the impending arrival.
I still want to sew for everyone including the hubby who will not participate in choosing fabric for his own gear! I still want to sew for me but for now it is the situation of adaptation to meet the current needs. I still want to make more quilts. I would LOVE to have more time, but I confess I am struggling at the moment on that point. And I think it was a goal from last year, I will be sewing for a tiny person! From August onwards.
So lets see how many of those can be carried through with shall we? Such a flippant mind at the moment I possess.
