Sometimes all you need is to take a break from your hobby, even if it’s your favorite, and that’s completely normal. If you don’t feel like sewing is entertaining you at the moment, then use this opportunity to try something else. Scrapbooking, knitting… something that you’ve never tried before.
As for me, I often get stuck, but I had always…[Read more] -

I think it would be quite easy. When you sew the trouser front to the pocket bag you’d simply sew it at an angle – a bit like the Art Museum trousers.
Then you just need to ensure that the pocket stay (which would then form the side seam above the bottom of the pocket opening) is wide enough that none of the pocket facing shows. -

Love this pattern but in the past have had problems with on seam pockets. Because my abdomen is rounded they tend to gape and form wrinkles after sitting. This type of pant is usually very fitted in the body. Is there a way to convert the pockets to a slant opening to alleviate the pulling at the side seam? Any suggestions?

I’ve cycled wearing mine – only a short distance (school commute) mind you and mine is a stretch pleather, but it was fine to ride in.

You can certainly line the skirt, but a lining and instructions for lining it are not included in the pattern because, after much debate, I decided to keep it simple. We’ll do a lined pencil skirt someday, but it was too difficult to include un-lined and lined in one pattern. I hope that helps, and when I did a lot of biking I also wore pencil skirts!

I was hesitant to buy the pencil skirt pattern because I bike to work, but a colleague of mine says she can bike in her pencil skirts. I’m excited to use the Extra Sharp Pencil Skirt to give it a try. Pencil skirts *are* extremely sharp looking!
In preparing, I’m curious to know more about the issue of lining. The pattern calls for an unlined…[Read more]

lakepa replied to the topic Elastic how long for size 7? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 7 years ago
Btmom, you can make an adjustable waistband by using buttonhole elastic. I get mine at JoAnn’s. It’s not very sturdy so I use a piece with 4 or 5 buttonholes and sew it to the end of the measured skirt elastic. I sew a 5/8″ button to the inside of the waistband beside where the elastic emerges from the casing. Choose a buttonhole and push the…[Read more]

I’m making size 7 shorts as well. I cut the elastic at 21″ (Kid has a 23″ waist), butted ends together so no overlap. But when finished, the elastic length is not much less than the waisteband of the shorts, that there is barely any gathering, if that makes sense. I’m concerned about them staying up on him. It’s a surprise gift that will be…[Read more]
